Lucia, I think that is an appropriate strategy. It is a good idea to get a decent amount of content going on your site before you start slapping up ads.

As I just mentioned in my latest blogging for money post, you should try to use a few different advertising sources to have a diverse source of income. When you limit yourself to just one tool, you are fully dependent on that one source of income.

I guess I thought I'd wait until I had at least 50 posts up. I've had a knitting blog for a long time, and I know that no matter what I intend, the personality of my blog will need to develop over the first few months.

Right now, I'm trying to build a blog roll and I need to think about my template. Anyone who visits can see I'm using one that comes with the WP installation. I wanted to defer my full decision until I knew what sort of things I really want to place on the sidebar, and decide if I prefer Kontera or Adsense ads etc.!

After that I might advertise a little!

Only you can say whether it is right for you or not. Personally, I've taken an approach to try and spend as little as possible out of my pocket to build my sites. However, I have been spending some of the money that I am starting to earn on advertising or other services to better my blogging.

But for new blogs, it can be quite successful to pay for a little advertising/links to get your name out there and build up quickly.

My blog is way to new and has little content. It's not worth paying a penny for links yet. (I don't think so anyway!)

Or am I wrong?

Jim, you are right that there is an awful lot of chatter around the blogosphere touting the success of John Chow and trying to piggy back on some of that success.

Whether you believe John is teaching others how to make money online, it is hard to argue with the success he has had. In my opinion, I have learned by example from some of the things John does and I enjoy reading his blog although I have started to see more posts on his site that I pass over.

You mention the many other better blogs. I know of a few that I read regularly but I would like to hear your feedback on which sites you find to be of the most value. Which are your preferred sites?
