How to Win
It is really quite simple…refer the most traffic to this site between February 1st, 2008 and February 25th, 2008 and you win!
The official measurement of referred traffic will be the numbers reported by Google Analytics. On the 25th, I will log into my Analytics account and select the blog that generated the highest number of visits.
Payment will be made via PayPal.
Why $106.34?
When I first thought of rewarding the top referring site, I planned to give away an even $100. But that number is kind of boring - isn’t it?
The real reason that I chose this amount was because I really like nice round numbers - yes I know, $106.34 is not a nice round number however when deducted from the funds in my PayPal account I will be left with a nice round number - and it’s all about me baby!
Plus I think an odd dollar amount like this makes it a little more interesting.
Why end the contest on February 25th, 2008?
You might be wondering why I am not running the contest for the entire month of February, which is a perfectly valid question.
If you’re a regular reader you will know that the post on the last Monday of the month is dedicated to sharing a little link love with the top ten referring sites.
What better time to announce the winner of the $106.34?

Nope - all you need to do is start referring visitors to this blog for your chance to win.
You’re free to use any means available to refer traffic to my site - as long as Google Analytics counts the visit I will consider it valid. So if you know how to game the Google Analytics stats you may very well win some cash.
If you’re looking for ideas on how to encourage your readers to visit my site, here are a few suggestions:
- Blog About It :: Write a quick post on your site that mentions the chance to win cash, as nothing encourages people like money, and provide a link to this contest or any other post.
- Bar-Me :: Add a sidebar link to this blog in a prominent location with a catchy anchor text that people just cannot resist clicking.
- Naked Women :: Put up a link indicating you found some hot naked pictures of some celebrity and direct people here. While I wouldn’t recommend this as you will likely piss off your readers, some people will do anything for money so I thought I’d throw it out there.

This is a brilliant contest idea. I wish I had thought of it… Come to think of it, I guess there really is nothing stopping me from running something similar in the future.

Sounds like a fun contest — too bad that I missed it! The “odd” amount caught my attention, a tactic I have employed previously that works wonders. People are usually curious about the amount and will stop and read what you have to say. Just as I did!
