I once tried to buy a domain name for my firm. It was on sale for USD 15000. Too much for me. But its still unsold. I keep getting reminder mails every month asking me to consider buying – at discount every time. But I’ve already purchased a similar new domain name and done with it.

Nice – 2.6 million is a huge chunk of money. I think the appeal is the credibility along with the short, easy to remember name.

I’ve tried selling a few domains but I think you have to actively market them or they’ll get pushed to the back of the bus and never be seen.

I think generic name websites are very well search specially those which became vices such as liquor, cigarettes, etc.

Mixed case seems to grab the attention but I can’t quite see why anyone would pay $5 million for AsSeenOnTv.com.

I’ve sold a few domains in my time. Best I got was about $3000. Only three zeros more and I would have got the same as what pizza.com got.

Sex and porn were almost expected to be at the top. The enterprising ones who booked these lucrative domains when it wasn't such a big deal are now enjoying the fruits. Wish I had booked something good too. Noting seems to be available these days. Which is why all the social networking sites are coming up with the most ridiculous names I guess. I personally own a bunch of domains. None I consider "gems". But I just don't know how to go about even trying to sell this stuff. It's hard to imagine someone paying that type of money for a domain. Good domain names are getting harder and harder to find these days. Lots of good domain names were bought in the early 90′s and these people are just squatting on them until someone makes an offer they simply cant refuse.
