Case Study Update: All-In-One SEO Ten Months Later

For those that are new to the site, you may not be aware of a case study that I performed last August after installing the All-In-One SEO plugin on this blog. Each phase of the case study consisted of a two-week duration.

For more background information, you might want to reference the first three installments of this case study:

It has been a little over 10 months since I last looked at how my site was performing compared to the metrics used in this case study.

This update covers the most recent two-week period, beginning on May 28th and ending June 10th and examines the volume of traffic that this site receives from the various search engines as well as how my pages are displayed in the search results, including the number of indexed pages.

Update: Unique Visitors
According to Google Analytics, there have been 916 unique visits in the last two weeks that originated from the various search engines. This represents an increase of more than 400% in the number of visits since the last update.

The traffic from Google has increased over 450% compared to the previous update, while Yahoo has increased more than 375% and there has been a 111% increase in visits from MSN.

All In One SEO Case Study Update

Update: Search Results
The site search at Google returned 504 results from the site:dereksemmler.com search query, compared with 275 results from the previous two-week period.

After discovering a recent issue with my sitemap that was being crawled by Google, I was pleased to see the number of pages that are indexed. The large increase in search traffic coming from Google is due in large part to the increase in indexed pages - including a surprising number of visits for the term Home Alone 5 believe it or not.

All In One SEO Case Study Update

One of the nice things about using the All-In-One SEO plugin is that the visual display of the search results are much more appealing than the default nonsense that you see for many search results.

Now the search results for this site include a much more accurate description and the post title is listed prior to the site name. All of these small changes make the search results stand out a little more and make them more attractive to people surfing the Interweb.

All In One SEO Case Study Update

Analysis and Next Steps
It was very interesting to dust off this case study and examine the results after months of having used the All-In-One SEO plugin. The results are very encouraging, as the volume of traffic from the search engines has grown tremendously and the number of indexed pages continues to increase.

The interesting thing to note is that the readers of this site have held pretty steady with the number of pages viewed per visit and the average time spent on the site. It would be nice to see these numbers increase, although I believe they are pretty much in line with many blogs.

What do you think of this most recent look at the All-In-One SEO Case Study?

I don’t know much about the plugin, so I won’t go into that. But I do have something to add. Google doesn’t like people including links to google search within content. Meaning like if your site is xyz.com, then you should not be adding links to a google site search of xyz.com (site:xyz.com).

BTW, the adsense google site search box is ok. I’m just talking about including the link within posts. Also for the record, this is just personal experience, so I might be wrong.

I don’t doubt that Google might not appreciate someone constantly linking to search results, but as it is not a common occurence on this site, I doubt that it will be much of an issue.

Interesting note - I think I’ve only done that in the previous case study updates and never heard anything negative about it. I’ll have to look into that more though, thanks for the heads-up.

Google would prefer to have links to search results nofollowed. They don’t care about the actual linking though.

I’m totally jealous. Not of your traffic, but of how you’ve managed to monetize your traffic. I thought that you had tons more search traffic than I do…but apparently I just suck at monetizing.

Weeellllll….back to the drawing board, I suppose.

I’m glad your stats are up though. Good job!

For the volume of traffic that I do get, I agree that I have had pretty good fortune with monetization. Although that just makes it all the more hair-pulling to try and drive traffic up to maximize the monetization efforts.

I’ve run this plugin from day 1 so I don’t have anything to compare to, but I do thing it can’t hurt to have it installed. Congratulations on the increase in results and traffic. I agree that it definitely makes the site more appealing in search results.

I have been using the All-in-one SEO plugin for a while now on all of my blogs. I agree with you that it is worth getting this plugin even if you just use it to move the post title ahead of your blog title in the search engines.

You’ve seen a lot of great results during this case study so far. This is my first time hearing of it, though. I’ll read the previous posts later…

All-In-One-SEO plugin is just awesome. It has also increased my traffic. The sad thing is that uberdose, the creator of the plugin, has said that he will no longer be suporting and updating the plugin…

I try not to let the page views bother me too much. I think most readers only read the latest post before they move on to the next blog they want to visit.

I was told by an SEO blogger to use this plug-in, so I did. Though, I wasn’t really sure why. Your screen shot of the google rankings shows it very clearly.

I am also downloading a google sitemap plugin for wordpress. What plugin do you use for your sitemap generator?

Thanks,
Nicole

The sitemap plugin that I am currently using is the Google Sitemaps Generator for WordPress. I’ve been using this on a few blogs and it has worked well for me.

Yes, very very useful plugin. Apparently the original owners have dropped support, but a new company picked it up.

Looking at your traffic results is motivating me to start my own automotive blog soon. Mainly because, i get most of my traffic from MSN (with no blog), so if the difference is that great between them and Google, the traffic i can get from Google (with a blog) would be unbelievable.
