Being so involved, I have to say that it certainly doesn’t feel like it has been fast. But I really believe that the ticket to my success thus far has been consistency and variety. Hmmm, that sounds a little contradictory but let me explain.
In the early stages when there wasn’t any money coming in and I was wondering if I would ever earn anything, I stayed consistent with everything – posting, responding to comments, commenting elsewhere, sharing link love, etc. So many people give up before they begin to earn any money, it is certainly not a get rich quick (or easy) proposition.
When I mention variety, I am referring to the variety of income streams. It wasn’t until I branched out from AdSense that I really began to earn money. You need to always be trying new tools, as I am doing now with Adnet. Some will work, some will not – but you don’t know how they will work for you until you try.

me personally, i like i cook steaks with fresh veggies on the side. and as far as comfort food…. i like to say hello to my favorite guys, ben and jerry.
As you noted, I do grill more than I cook in the kitchen. I’m not much of a steak person really, I’d prefer a nice grilled chicken breast, pork chop, or something simple like spicy Italian sausages.
Comfort foods, I’m really not much of an ice cream fan although I do have a weakness for Bryers Coffee or Mint Chocolate Chip. My #1 comfort food is cheese – strange I know but it is the truth.
Andrea asks:
if yes, How are you liking your Mac? What are the pros and cons so far? (for you, not what you have heard from all the apple-haters) Dont forget, if you have any probs/questions, i can help you out or my husband, he is more knowledgeable than i am.
Pros: new tools/apps to play with, portability (would be true for any laptop), more peace of mind with regard to virus/hacks, much snappier than my Windows desktop
Cons: lack of experience with new tools often means I jump on the Windows machine to do things, prefer larger screen/keyboard when working at home
As you can see, the cons really are not with the Mac itself but more that I didn’t really buy the Macbook to replace my desktop. I still do all of my finances on the desktop and when I am working at home, I find that I get things done faster on the PC just because I am so familiar with it.

The meaning of life will be different from person to person, as well as at different times in the same persons life. Right now I would tell you that the meaning of my life is to provide a healthy and happy home for my family, help other people to the best of my abilities, and have fun along the way.

Shawn Knight asks:
The way we play is where one person is “it” (the Ghost) and they run off to hide while all of the other players stay at base. Once the ghost is hiding, everyone counts to 12 (usually by time, such as one o’clock, two o’clock…midnight) and then looks for the ghost.
When someone sees the ghost, they yell “Ghost in the graveyard!” and try to run back to base. The ghost attempts to tag everyone before they get back to base. The people that make it back to base count again, now with more ghosts hiding. This continues until the last person is caught by a ghost, who then becomes the first ghost for the next round.
Hope that makes sense, lol.

The majority of our time is all spent together, which as great as that is I do think we need to spend more time sharing special time with each child individually and together as a couple.
With my kids, we are always outside playing – baseball, basketball, football, riding bikes, hiking, playing at the park. When I am not at work and the kids are awake, we are doing one of those things. The other thing that we do regularly and that I love is reading.
Individually, I will say that my oldest son and I probably play catch the most. He is a huge baseball nut and plays Little League all summer, which makes his broken wrist pretty hard to adjust to right now. My youngest son and I like to “National Fight” as he calls it, where we act out fight sequences and wrestle around.
My wife and I don’t spend nearly enough time without the kids, which we really need to get better about. Often times it is things like a quiet dinner out, see a movie, go for a walk.

Nice round-up, Derek. I can see that this series is going to get pretty popular around these parts.

Ahaha, lots of questions answered. When I started my puppet podcast, I asked people to send in questions for the characters to answer. My friend asked “what is the meaning of life?” Unfortunately I never got to it cuz I couldn’t come up with a good response (one that would be entertaining and within budget at the same time anyway).
Derek tried to cook pizza once and almost blew his house up

ok, i will be the one to ask……how does one blow up their house trying to cook pizza? LOL
Check out this post for the details of that story.
Cheers Derek, I know what your saying about needing to experiment to find out what works best for your blog. Blogs about online stuff, blogging, social media, web master type stuff I have found it easy to get plenty of hits, but not so easy to make any money from the traffic.

Great stuff derek, thanks for answering them!
Thanks for the answer, but you’re too late, cause I already saw the Hulk. And you’re right. Its good, but not as good as Iron-Man, which really rocked.
Derek, your answers are well thought out, and ooze sincerity. Thank you for doing this exercise.

The days when kids spent all their time outside, much fun!
It seems that Derek has been thrown with a lot of questions:)
Wow, I’m so honored to be the first one who’s question was answered! This must be what it feels like to win an Emmy.
Nice answer about the meaning of life! Though, most of the time people ask about the meaning of life it tends to be in reference to some grand scheme. I agree about the living with integrity and purpose.
Cool to the hulk as well, maybe I’ll rent it when it comes out.
Derek, it seems that you got tons of questions. And it’s interesting to know more facts and bits of information about you.

All, thanks for all of the feedback and responses. This new Q&A feature is a lot of fun for me and it seems like all of you enjoy it as well.
I’ll continue to run this feature so please keep the questions coming!
One of these days I’ll think of something to ask…There are quite a wide range of topics that get touched upon during these Q&A sessions here.

Love the tone of your answers.

I have to disagree with your Edward Norton Hulk… Lou Ferrigno is hands down the best hulk.
I’d agree with you there, I was just referring to the two latest Hulk movies that have been released. It was funny seeing Lou with a small part in the most recent movie.
i’m fascinated by the fact that you were able to monetize well without having to worry as much about pagerank and traffic. will have to look for your articles on how you did this.
