Speedlinking - June’s Most Vocal

During the month of June, there was quite a bit of interesting dialog that took place as well as a few changes to the site related to comments and the use of keyword links.

While sharing the link love with the top commentators last month, I also shared a look at the top three commented posts. It is always interesting to see which posts attract the most conversation so I thought I would include this as a regular feature of the Most Vocal Speedlinking posts.

Here are the three most commented posts from the month of June:

For the month of June, there were 504 comments posted to the blog, which averages out to slightly more than 26 comments per post. It will be interesting to see if we can surpass that average in the coming month.

After a little tweaking to my comment query to accommodate for the changes introduced by the use of the KeywordLuv plugin, the following community members were the most vocal in the month of June:

Top Commentators June 2008

1. Nick from romandock dot com secured the top spot of the month with 32 comments. Last month Nick commented about trying to make the list - job well done! Nick is a familiar face around these parts, but did you know that he just celebrated one year of blogging? Congrats!

2. Steve Elliot from Gadgets4Nowt narrowly missed the top spot, coming in 2nd with 31 comments. With this site being more or less static, there isn’t really anything new that I can link to but I did notice that Steve is now displaying a link for a free Wii fit.

3. Andrea from According to Andrea locked up third place with 24 comments. For those that don’t know, let me tell you that Andrea is a gaming fanatic enthusiast. Knowing that, it came as no surprise that she would risk brain freeze and a traffic violation to get home and play her new copy of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. Andrea, I would so kick your butt!

4. Nicole Price from Great Prices Here secured the fourth spot with 23 comments. While I am holding out for my free copy of Wii Fit (ahem, Steve), you might be more interested in some of the deals on fitness equipment that Nicole recently shared.

5. The last spot, with 18 comments, was taken by pauletet from mp3aim.com. Something that caught my eye and made me wonder if the results have been skewed by recent tabloid-worthy news was the fact that MP3s by Madonna were near the top of the MP3 search list.

Only two commentators from last month maintained their position in the top five spots this month - how many will be able to hang on in July?

It was great to see that more people were sharing their thoughts this month and challenging for a spot as a top commentator. As we enter the second half of the year, things don’t look like they will be slowing down so we should have even more great conversations to come.

Thanks everyone!

Congratulations to the most yakky commentators. Won fair & square, by posting multiple comments on the same post. I gotta learn how to do that. :)

Lol, feel free to jump in and engage other people with follow-up comments to their comments. There is nothing better than seeing community members helping each other out and sharing dialog.

Lol, I’m really not all that good but I knew that my comment would get you going as a gamer. ;)

But I do kill it on Metallica’s One - and I even sing along while playing.

Thanks for the recognition again Derek, much appreciated as ever.

You are right that my site is fairly static. I’m at a bit of a crossroads with it to be honest. Surprising as it may seem, it brings in anything between £35 and $100 a day but I am not sure I can ever increase that. I also have more gadgets and gizmo’s than you can imagine after running the site for a year and a half.

Not complaining by any means, just not sure where to go from here.

Wow Steve, you make a lot of money from that site. And since that’s in Euros, it means you make double in US dollars. That’s crazy!

Thanks. I wish it were double but I meant to quote in USD, so between $35 and $100 dollares. Still really pleased though.

For a site that is essentially static though, I think those are pretty good numbers. Even on the low end, that averages out to about $1000/month.

Not sure if you care to disclose but how much (if any) do you spend on advertising the site to pull in those numbers? Is that $35-100 in profit or revenue?

I’ve had two sites running for about 16 months now and have spent (and still spend to a lesser degree) money on advertising and reviews along the way. Probably $350 - $450 in total to date.

More recently it’s been a case of keeping the sites ranking well in Google. I get around 500 uniques a day in total - not a huge amount but at $35 for each affliate referral, I only need two or three of those visitors to sign up and it starts to add up.

I could go on all day about how th thing works but wont hijack the thread!

Thanks for the additional information. If you’re ever interested in sharing more details, I’ll open the floor for a guest post as that would fit in nicely here.

I wouldn’t mind hearing more about how you have that all set up. I wouldn’t mind having a static site making $30 per day! I would just leave it be and enjoy the extra cash!
