The most important people in the world to me are my wife and two kids. Clearly I cannot say that one of them is any more important than the other, as they each hold an equal level of importance to me.
If you’re going to make me pick just one person though, I am going to sound conceited and say myself. The reason that I say that is because if I don’t take care of myself, I will not be here to share in the lives of the people that are the most important to me. That might seem strange to some people but I would never want my kids to grow up without their dad around and I wouldn’t want to lose my best friend and wife, so I like to think I am pretty important, lol.

Lately, I have been addicted to Left Of Center, which is their channel for indie, underground and import music. I’ve been exposed to such a variety of music on this channel and I am really digging it. The only other channel or show that I tune in for is the Covino and Rich Show on Maxim Radio.

P.S.: Sorry bout the double question.
While I don’t necessarily look at what I will be doing in 10 years specifically, I have a target date for an early retirement at the age of 52 and that is the mark that I focus on the most.
Eva White asks:
Looking beyond holidays, we haven’t really traveled much but the place that has been our favorite would have to be the Smoky Mountains. We love to spend the day in the National Park hiking the trails and exploring. Later this year we will be making a trip to Disney World, which I am sure willl be a hit with everyone.

(Don’t answer if too personal, it’s just that my wife and I are both the only children around to look after our mums right now and I am intrigued how many others are in a similar boat)

Also, is there a difference between checking “Subscribe to comments via email” and “Notify me of followup comments via e-mail”?
As for the question about the “Subscribe” and “Notify” boxes, I believe that they will both work the same. They are two different plugins, one of which is included in the threaded comments that are used on this blog. It could probably be cleaned up to remove one of them, I just haven’t done it.

Do you ever get tired of blogging? Ever just go in phases like you like to then one week you dont?

I love Left of Center, it has a lot of variety and more new music than you hear on other stations. You might also want to check out 21, Alt Nation, and 24, ’90s rock, if you like Octane.
Scotts last blog post..100 Push Up Challenge
Alt Nation is on my presets, as is BuzzSaw, Hard Attack, Lithium (which is the 90’s rock channel 24), 1st Wave, Maxim and the two Howard channels.
But LoC has been my primary choice lately, listening to MGMT – Kids right now.
They had been playing Elbow fairly regularly but I haven’t heard them in quite some time and I was liking their music. Good stuff!
MGMT is one of my favorite new bands. Had to buy their album and put it on my iPhone. I just got a iPhone dock for my truck today so it will be competing with Sirius for play time.

I’m with you on howard….how about Artie falling off the wagon…thats crazy!
Yeah, I had suspicions (as did many people) that he was back on the drugs but I am glad that he has come clean about it and is trying to get better.
You know, these Q&A’s of yours are becoming kinda fascinating. Before, I just used to read the answers to my questions, but now I’ve started reading all the qestions and answers.
That is great to hear and is one of the reasons why I have enjoyed them so much as well.
You being the most important person in your life is the most profound statement that I have come across in the recent past. This is so true but sadly misunderstood, if that is the way to put it. Most people would mistake it for being selfish, whereas it is anything but. That was a nice answer to a difficult question.
Thank you for leaving my answer in place.
Yeah, you understood the exact point that I was trying to make. I was concerned that it would be misunderstood but didn’t want to hold it back.
Great questions and answers Derek. I appreciate you sharing both technical and personal information. Before I forget, and if it doesn’t make it I understand, I’ve got my question for the next round:
“Which blog do you enjoy writing for more – The Man Page or your personal site? Which blog gives you greater personal satisfaction?”
I know it’s kind of a loaded question, and I’m sure you enjoy them both or you wouldn’t do it. I’m just interested to know your motivation for doing multiple blogs.
Jeremy (Discovering Dad)s last blog post..Spotlight on Dads – Chris Lewis
That is a great question…I’ll see if I can cover that in an upcoming post.
Whew:) Derek you are like a star:)Thanks for sharing your life to us.
That was very interesting. Thx you.
I love the idea of opening up to reader questions, I think I am going to do this. Some good answers there too!
peters last blog post..Why Doesn’t Peter Answer Me?
Thanks, I highly recommend featuring a Q&A on your own blog as the reception here has been fantastic.
interesting question and answer! Thanx for sharing!
This is totally cool – it really is taking interaction with your users to a new level 0 one that I can only assume is pretty unique as I have not come across this level of communication on any other blogs.
As I noted in the first edition of this series, I stole the idea from Shoemoney. Now it has become a monthly feature here on this blog so stay tuned for next month!
I look forward to these segments all month. Very cool.
You and me both! Thanks for letting me know that you enjoy them as well.
Hey this is a pretty good Q&A.
It has inspired me to come up with some revealing questions for next month.
BTW: I was pretty sure I was your idol. Do you want to re-think your answer to that one?
Lol, I’ll just delete your questions. You lost idol status in my book when you couldn’t bench press more than 200 pounds!
Derek: Nah, not the the next John Chow…the one and only Derek Semmler – that is how I like to look at it.
Derek- Thats a great outlook! I do truly feel that this blog will be considered and major player in the blogsphere like it or not.
Thanks again
interesting. i also tend to comment a lot on other blogs, but i haven’t yet really done anything as regards social media.
