Speedlinking - October 2008 Recap
During the time that I was away on a family vacation, you were all treated to a change of pace with a variety of outstanding guest posts.
While things kept moving right along, we did miss a couple of Speedlinking posts so I thought that I would combine Where Did You Come From, Where Did You Go with the list of Top Commentators in this recap.
We’ll kick things off with a shout to the most active community members. There are quite a few familiar faces at the top of the list this month and it is no surprise to also see that four of the five top commentators also contributed a guest post to the blog in October.
Top 5 Commentators
- Nick from romandock dot com
- Andrea from According to Andrea
- Nicole from Great Prices Here
- kouji from haiku poems examples
- Ling from Uptake
Overall for the month of October, there was a decrease in comment volume and it seems the guest posts from while I was away averaged fewer comments than other posts during the month. The following posts lead the way with the most comments:
Top 5 Commented Posts
- Sleeping Beauty Does Not A Good Blogger Make
- 2008 AL Central Division Champions
- Blogging For Money :: September 2008
- 5 Reasons You Should Trick Or Treat At My House
- Speedlinking - Vancouver Edition
Now that we have taken a look at who was the most vocal, as well as which posts received the largest number of comments, lets examine which sites referred the most traffic. It is the links that all of you share with your readers that continue to help this blog grow, for which I am extremely grateful.
Top 5 Referring Sites
With all of the traffic arriving at the blog, would you like to know which posts garnered the most attention? Taking a look at the stats as reported by Google Analytics, here are the top 5 visited posts from the past month.
Top 5 Visited Posts
- How To Record A Cellphone Conversation
- Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor
- 100 Push Up Challenge :: Join Me And Win
- Pictures :: Aftermath of Exploding CD
- Halloween Costumes :: Purchase vs. Home-Made
It is interesting to note that the top three visited posts were identical in both September and October and the fourth most visited post has regularly been in the top ten. The fifth most visited post clearly was leveraging the increase in traffic due to the Halloween season.
As I conclude this recap from the month of October, I’d like to extend my thanks to all of you for your participation and assistance with making this blog what it is today. Your voice is truly appreciated and I look forward to continued dialog with each of you.
Thank you!

I’ve always suspected that you have some secret magic powers which force your visitors into commenting.
That’s why the guest posts didn’t get as many comments as your posts. Otherwise Andrea’s post (and picture) was good enough to break the records for the number of comments.
You’ve discovered my secret Jedi powers…
Comment you will.
It is nice to feature in your list of top commentators. The number of comments may well be a reflection of the number of posts made. You might like to see if there is any correlation here.
Yes and no, there have been months where the post numbers were down and the comments were up and vice versa. Although clearly the more posts there are, the more chance people have to comment so it would help increase the overall numbers.
Thank you.
Nicole Prices last blog post..Green Tax Breaks
Sweet, I got two links in the same post! To make it even better, I was at the top of both lists! Glad to know that I have been sending you some traffic…enough to be at the top even!
Thanks for the links and here’s to another successful month!
Nick, much appreciated! You had sent a nice amount of traffic over last month, keep it coming.
As long as you keep posting I will keep visiting. Every now and then you have a real gem on your blog. This is what keeps me returning.
John
Thanks for the feedback and I am happy to hear that you have found some real gems in my content.
Notice though that he said “every now and then”…so normally they’re not there
Nicks last blog post..Housekeeping - November 2008
If they were normally there, they wouldn’t be as special.
LOL I thought the same thing when i read that!
The long tail on how to record a cell phone convo but be a good traffic generator.
Sorry Derek, I’ve not been around so much since August.
My “real” job is in insolvency work and we snowed under here in the UK due to the credit crunch. And, with respect to the guest posters, they could not match up to your style and content (even if some were better looking!)
No worries, I completely understand how the other demands can keep you away. Thanks for the flattering comment, although the guest authors all have a great style and writing ability of their own.
Hey derek, i was wondering something. When you would post about the top commentators, you used to write a little blurb about them. whatever happened to that? just wonderin’
Part of it has been due to time but also just to change it up a little bit. The time before this that I did a list style w/o the blurb, I had listed 10 people as opposed to the normal 5. This time I condensed a few different things so kept it a little shorter.
Don’t worry…you’ll see the “blurbs” return with the next edition.
I currently work for a large ISP and have been trying to get links for my site. I came accross this site and I love all the articles.
Thanks Derek
