Looking back on January, there was TONS of information to have read, “magic” being shared, and laughter at someone else’s expense – by a kid no less (c’mon, I know you laughed I sure did)!
Up high reading about Derek share his Magic Formula to More Comments , Adding 440+ Readers to Your Blog in 4 Easy Steps and who could forget about being at The Wrong Place At The Wrong Time. Down to reading about Derek’s realization about Pursuing His Passion.
By the way, my name is Andrea. I run the show over at According to Andrea. You may have seen me hanging out here commenting and also my attempt to lighten the mood with nonsense in my guest post.
No, I am not taking over derek semmler dot com.
I know I am filling in some big shoes but I am simply helping Derek out until he makes it back. Rest assure that you are in good hands. I will try my best to keep the community interaction going.
I know it is a bit late but I am here to present to you the Where Did You Come From, Where Did You Go?
Top 10 Referring Sites
- Geekologie
- InlineSEO
- Courtney Tuttle
- GrowMap
- According To Andrea
- romandock dot com
- Sparkplugging
- Trade Show Guru
- Dietriffic
- Digital Product Reporter
Geekologie has taken the lead away from Blog Blazers last month. You know, if I didn’t know any better this list pretty much looks like last month’s top ten with the addition of Trade Show Guru and Dietriffic. Blog Blazers seems to have slipped off the list from last month but I am sure it will be back, it had a strong debut last month. Congratulations to all the Top 10 Referring Sites this month, great job!
Keeping with last month’s visits and pageviews, this blog passed the 6000+ visits and 10,000+ pageviews! I am completely amazed how this blog keeps up with these figures. Derek couldn’t have done it without help from y’all, the community!
Moving on to the Top 10 Visited Posts, here they are from the past month (according to Google Analytics).

3 of the Top 10 Visited Posts were from within the last month, several have been recently and few that have been well established such as the how to record a cellphone conversation and Ford Crown Victoria Interceptor.
I will be honest with you, I haven’t read the top 2 posts. I came across Derek’s blog in the middle of last year and never read them firsthand. Maybe I will add to the visited post count and go take a look at them.
Reflecting on this past month, I saw alot of posts being focus on information on being successful and alot about affiliate marketing. Do these possibly go hand in hand? Hmm, maybe. What do you think?

Hi Andrea
Glad to see someone is filling in for Derek while he is taking a break (hopefully he will be back at some point when he finds the right balance). I missed quite a number of the top 10 posts so It was good to catch up on them, I quite like the idea of the 100 pushup challenge so may try myself to get a bit more motivated as I have been lazy over the past year.
I don’t think you need affiliate marketing to be successful on-line but the 2 can go hand in hand. You can use affiliate marketing as a method for becoming successful if that’s the route you decide to take. The more niche the market is the more successful the affiliate scheme will likely work as the traffic you are targeting are more likely to respond to your site adverts.
heya,
the 100 pushup challenge is a bit rough if you arent active in the first place. but yeah, its def worth a try if you want to set some personal goals. the trick is to start off slow and not rush into it.
I agree with your point on affiliate marketing and being successful, they do go hand in hand in most cases.
It’s all good. Fill those shoes. You don’t want those perfectly good shoes to go to waste!

What Kelvin said. I was beginning to feel a hole in my daily schedule, not having anything to say on this blog. I’m sure you’ll do just as well as Derek, Andrea.
thanks. i can totally relate to the “hole in my daily schedule”. i was going thru withdrawals, i needed to get my ds.com fix. lol
Andrea, as I have mentioned to you previously and will repeat here again, I truly appreciate you offering to help out here on the blog and cannot thank you enough.
It is comforting to know that the blog is in good hands.
Derek,I just want to give you a big thanks for giving me the chance to help you out. I consider you my blogging mentor and it means alot to lend a hand.
Hi Andrea!
It’s amazing that the cellphone proved to be such a popular post – I bet you didn’t think it would be top post for so long when you wrote it Derek?
When I wrote the posts about the cell phone and recording from a cell phone, I had no idea that they would generate this kind of traffic. It really is amazing to see what content becomes sticky.
yeah it is interesting on how it has been consistantly in the top 10. i think what would be more interesting is why people are looking that up? lol obviously somebody wants to catch somebody.
LOL at Leonardo, maybe the first thing you should apply is something a bit more relevant to your posts.
A big thanks to Andrea for stepping in, a fantastic gesture.
Steves last blog post..Is there a new iPhone around the corner?
Lol, for anyone wondering, Steve is referring to a couple of “comments” from Leonardo that have been deleted – they were awfully similar to the “comments” from Bradd on another post.
thanks steve, i am sure anybody would have stepped up to the plate if they had the time to help out.
hey Andrea,
Good to see a new post here! ~ Steve, the trade show guru
That mighty nice of you to help Derek out. And you even got him to comment a few times above! Can you let us know if you have another guest post coming up and what it is, or is Derek coming back to reclaim his big shoes?
Well what i would like for my next post is to be the most vocal for january. I will have that up as soon as I can. nick went beserko with his comments lol last i saw he was up to 60s(??) But I do hope to have posts up on a regular basis until derek can make it back.
Oops, did I really comment that much?

It is good to know that the blog wont just disappear and that it is in good hands. I have been an active member of this community for a few months now and really enjoy the banter as well as the hints and tips I receive from all the people and posts on here.
I’m new to this blog, so hello to you all here!
Very good post, Andrea. I’m looking forward to new ones from you!
Cheers

thanks for the article.

Congratulation,
today you won a new reader
Nice list Andrea. My only tangible goal is to do 6 blogpost a day in my blogs. Starting two months earlier than last year and probably being able to do couple of posts in the same amount of time, I think it’s bouble.
Andrea, as popular as those posts seem to be and as long as you’ve been here, I can’t believe that you haven’t checked them all out!
Looks like I’m slipping on my efforts of driving traffic to this site though…might have to work on that.

I can’t remember how i found this blog but i’m glad i did!
I’m pleased the blog won’t just be left to a side whilst Derek’s having some fun!
I do not remember from which website , but I come from a blogroll.

Welcome, Andrea.
Oddly, I came to this blog looking for a guy I met at a conference whose name was Derek S-something. The Derek of this blog didn’t turn out to be that Derek. But I’ve been reading this blog ever since. One of those happy accidents.

I think it depends on what it is you want from your blog.
I applaud the tips and suggestions put forth by Derek in regards in making a successful blog, but that all depends on what you mean by successful.
Take my humble blog: it has been (largely) the outlet of my political venting and posturing, my humor (or attempts at same), and some brief details of my life. Not exciting, perhaps, and while my hits and page views are generally a mere 10% of this blogs, I’ve never thought of posting as need. No, I’ll never make money from my effort – well, I’m liable to make a few dollars per year, but that’s all – but that doesn’t mean I am not successful. Who among us, truly, can point to their blog’s archive and show more than 6 years worth of posts?
As for affiliates: I am all for them, except speaking personally. My need to remain as anonymous as possible makes any sort of relationship where my tax ID # might be revealed as non-starters. So the accumulation of those few dollars I make on Google Ads, once I reach the payout threshold, will probably never be collected. I am OK with that, because I’d rather spend my time writing what I want, when I want; if people read it, that’s gravy.

Hi Andrea,
Nice to see some activity on Derek’s blog. I think you’ve done a good job on the first post. Look forward to more in Derek’s style soon.
Hey Derek,
Nice to see that even though you are not blogging you are replying to comments.
Take care.

great site!
I’ve been using inlineseo for a while now, and it’s definitely helped me through my rough seo times.
a must have-read for any SEO or webmaster
I am wondering to see the stats and what people are searching. At first it looks like we are going crazy about mobile stuff but we can’t ignore realities. Anyways I hope this blog will run smoothly with derek until he comes back, Wish you good luck Andrea…
Andrea,
Congratulations and thank you for your contribution in this blog. At first I thought I was wrong, “why Derek talks to himself”, but finally I recognized that, oh! it’s Andrea.
Anyway, keep it up.

Andrea, congrats on your first blog post here. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it and hope to hear more from you in the future!
Actually, this is at least her second…I know for sure that she had a guest post when Derek was on his Florida vacation.

Good to know that you have quite some referral traffic. In my case, for the last couple of months, search traffic is slowly increasing and referral traffic decreasing.
Also due to the competition that I hosted, direct traffic was very very high.

The 100 pushup challenge is not the best idea. The only thing it gives you is the possibility to do 100pushups. Nothing more. It doesn’t develop you muscle (you wouldn’t go to the gym and try to bech 1/3 if your weigth 100 times – that’d be pointless, and that;s exactly what you’re doing here) and it’s not really conditioning training either.
While push ups are certainly not going to give you a full-body workout, I disagree with your statement that push ups won’t develop muscle.
You are correct that being able to do 100 consecutive push ups doesn’t really mean you are the pinnacle of fitness, but it is a cool accomplishment (and one that many people don’t think sounds that hard until they try it – kind of like drinking a gallon of milk in an hour, or is it 30 minutes?).
I think i would barf if i drank a gallon of milk in 30 mins or an hour.
hi andrea,
well done andrea you are going really well has taken the responsibility
keep up your good record
Why didn’t we ALL think of this? Great to see Andrea was sharper than the rest of us. Or perhaps she is more organized and manages to accomplish more than we do. Every day there is more and more I wish I had gotten done online! There is no such thing as done as there is ALWAYS more to do.
As others have mentioned if we can do anything to assist let us know. Perhaps we could submit some guest posts to you and you can post them for Derek? He has some great community members who could share what they’re working on over in their blog spaces.
