Case Study :: Getting Started With Affiliate Marketing

Lately we have been having a great deal of discussion surrounding affiliate marketing, as many of us want to be successful and earn four and five-figure affiliate commissions (heck, most of us will be happy with two-figure commissions) but aren’t quite sure how to do it.

In an effort to gain a better understanding of affiliate marketing, we need to explore the steps necessary to getting started and what it takes to be successful. One of the best ways to learn is to roll up your sleeves and get dirty, which is exactly what we will be doing here.

As we begin this case study into getting started with affiliate marketing, I will do my best to walk you through the process that I have used – all the way from the custom scripts that I have been using – to the 3rd party tool that I am using now.

Here is an overview of the topics that we will discuss:

This case study will be a living experiment and will continue to grow as we learn more about affiliate marketing. Together we will explore what does work and what doesn’t work, with the end result being a blueprint that we can all use on our sites.

I need to come back here often and learn. I really stink at getting visitors. I know how to get a few hundred a day from a forum I frequent. But never get clicks on affiliate ads when I do it that way. The best thing I’ve tried to do so far is just get natural traffic from search engines. Will keep learning and will do so by returning here more often. Now onto click a couple posts above. Thanks.

My visitors have no idea how to click on an ad.

Hi again,
Just a few lines to let u know that I have just started my Website with professionals.” Helenscorneronline.com”. Please visit google, amazon or expedia (ads with travel or cruises in them). I only get a small commission if you buy something.
I have spent quite a bit to get started and hope I make some money back.

Well the best way to make money by affiliate marketing is to build an email list and send recommendations to your affiliate products together with useful content, it’s much better than just adding affiliate links on your site!

Thanks for the comment Jack. I’ve not published the remaining pieces yet and as of right now I don’t have a schedule as to when I might address them.

I’ve always wondered about affiliate marketing but never took the time to look into it further. However you do have some great points from what I’ve read here. I run a small web design/graphic design/web hosting company. Is there any way get into the affiliate marketing field utilizing my existing operation or would starting a new venture be more suitable?
