Last night I took my wife to see the musical “Wicked”, as that was part of her birthday present. While I’m not a big fan of musicals, I have to admit that this was an enjoyable performance.
We had outstanding seats in the orchestra section, although I really don’t think that there is a bad seat in the entire theatre. However, as a note to people with seats in the very middle of an aisle, try to arrive at your seats as soon as possible to avoid having a handful of people to squeeze past and once you sit down, stay there until intermission.
My one complaint about the performance would be that there were times that I felt the music was a little too overpowering. The volume of the music made it difficult to comprehend what the performers were singing. Other than that, I thought this was a tremendous performance and would highly recommend it to anyone considering this musical.
While I don’t have much prior experience with musicals to compare, we had heard quite a few people commenting on our way out of the theatre that they felt this was an outstanding performance and much better than the same show on Broadway. This is the third musical that I have attended and as much as I enjoyed the show, I don’t think it was my favorite.
We’ve seen the “Phantom of the Opera” two times at a candlelight dinner theatre and I would have to say that has been my favorite performance. Last year, when I was attending a conference in New York the vendor took everyone to “A Chorus Line” on Broadway. That show was neck-and-neck with Wicked but I would give the edge to “A Chorus Line” only because I’m really not a big fan of the Wizard of Oz.
The next musical that my wife would absolutely love to see is “Grease” and we’ve been trying to find time to see Blue Man Group one of these days. Even though the musicals are not high on my list of things to do, my wife enjoys them and it is fun to get out and have a night out on the town.

my best friend went to see Wicked about a month ago in LA. she LOVED it. wish i coulda seen it. glad you and your wife had a great time! 🙂
Thanks Danielle. It would be interesting to see how the performances differ across the country based on the actual performers, although I think I will leave that for someone else to discover. 🙂
You are so thoughtful. I salute you for taking your wife out for a birthday present. Only few men do that nowadays.
Do you think Wicked will make a come-back? I never got to see it, but I hoped to.

I saw Wicked in London – it was phenomenal! Have you seen The Lion King? The music is incredible and I think you’d enjoy it!
