Speedlinking – 28 May 2007

by derek on May 28, 2007 · 14 comments

To do something a little different for this edition of Speedlinking, I used a random number generator to select five numbers which were then used to select five sites from the MyBlogLog widget in my sidebar. With my five numbers and corresponding blogs selected, I bring you this week’s edition of Speedlinking.
1. SEO Ladder talks about a new plugin that I have been dreaming of to help make it easier to switch WordPress themes. Thank you Chris! When it is time for me to switch themes, I’ll be trying out your plugin.
2. Ryan Shamus provides a nice recap of the ShoeMoney vs. The Rich Jerk smackdown event. Most of this went down while I was in Orlando so this recap helped me catch up.
3. From the HitTail blog, Mike Levin brings us an article on how to learn programming in the first decade of the new century. As a programmer myself, I like Mike’s vision and look forward to following the progress of this project.
4. Kelly Cho recaps her experience of hiking Sequoia and an encounter with black bears. The pictures look amazing (outside of what Kelly sat on) and make me want to visit Sequoia with my family.
5. FiveCentNickel talks about the differences between net worth and net investable assets. As someone that tracks my “net worth” on my personal finance blog, I realize that I am also tracking more of my net investable assets rather than my net worth.
That concludes this edition of Speedlinking. Hopefully you enjoy this week’s entries and find some interesting material to read.
You never know where I will look for the next round of Speedlinking posts so be sure to stay active in the comments and MyBlogLog widget. Maybe I’ll even look to my WordPress dashboard for sites that are linking to me so I can return the link love! 😈

derek – Thanks for mentioning the ToggleTracking plug-in! Hopefully you (and others) will find it useful. I am working on adding sidebar and footer hooks as well…to make it a little more robust. I’ll let you know when I get things buttoned up.

Thanks again for the link love (and the stumble)…you rock!!! Had a bunch of readers stop by on Sunday it was crazy!
I just finished adding the additional features last night. I did a little re-branding as well…to make the title fit a little better with the purpose. I will try and post the zip file later this evening on nMedia Interactive.
I am still having some issues implementing tokens…let me know if you (or anyone else) are still interested in doing some development…maybe we could combine resources.

Chris, that is outstanding news and I am looking forward to giving the plugin a try. I’m going to be working on a new WP site for my Dad soon and plan on trying out your plugin.
I’ll touch base with you about assisting with development on the plugin.

Ok, took a little longer than I anticipated…I just finished posting the updated “TransferTweaks” plug-in at http://www.nmediainteractive.com/2007/05/18/transfer-tweaks-released/

Chris, thanks for the update on the plugin. Does this version include the sidebar and footer or is that a future version?
I cannot wait to make the time to try this plugin out as I think it will be great!

Derek, yes, this version contains hooks to place code in the head, footer, and sidebar…(I just realized that I need to update the plug-in description on the website to include this new functionality – sorry about that).
I am currently using it on two of my WP blogs and it seems to be performing pretty well. Let me know when you are finally able to give it a go…I would love to hear some feedback…I know there is plenty of room for improvement. Take care.

Cool. Right now I am just waiting to get enough time to sit down and get started on my Dad’s new site and implement your plugin.
Once I get a chance to use it, I will certainly share some feedback.

Link Love is probably my favorite phrase of the year thus far. Great speedlinking batch you got there, Derek!

@Ryan :: You’re welcome and thanks for the kind words. Looking forward to seeing you around!
@Chris :: If you get sidebar and footer hooks into the plugin, I think it will be really great. I know I have a handful of scripts included in my footer for various stat packages and things like that.
@copywriter :: I’m trying to do my small part by being free with the link love, after all this site is nothing without all of you. Thanks for sharing!
@Kelly :: Bitte schon!
