Featured Sites

As this site has continued to grow from the beginning a few short months ago, I have kicked around a few different ideas on how to monetize the site. For the most part, I have removed the previous attempts such as Google AdSense and Kontera as I just didn’t feel that they were the right option at that time.
With my personal finance blog I have had a fair amount of success with my monetization efforts, with the most successful tools being Google AdSense and Text Link Ads.
As you may have already noticed, I have now added a Featured Sites section to the sidebar and I will be offering space via Text Link Ads.

Monetize Your Site

I’ve now submitted two sites for approval and both have been denied, although I am now selling advertising space on both of those sites.
How Did I Do It?
When I orginally submitted my personal finance blog, I may have been a little too eager as my site was still really new. However, as my Google PageRank and Alexa ranking continued to improve I had hoped my account would be reviewed and subsequently approved.
After waiting and waiting, I realized that I may be waiting a long time for them to review my account request and decided to take matters into my own hands. In a matter of a few minutes, I had my account approved and was on my way to my first earnings with TLA after following these steps:
1. Call Text Link Ads @ 877.480.9755
2. Press “2” to be directed to Technical Support
3. Explain that your site rankings have improved and you would like a review of your account.
4. Thank the TLA representative for approving your account.
In my experience, you will have more success calling earlier in the morning around 8-9am EST otherwise you will likely be directed into voicemail.
For this site, I opted to try a different approach and simply sent an email to the TLA Support staff explaining that I had submitted this site for approval and believed the recent increases in PageRank and Alexa rank warranted approval. This morning I received an email response that this site had been approved and was ready to begin selling advertising via TLA.

With the plugin installed and the code configured on my sidebar, I am looking forward to selling out the available space on this site. With a Google PageRank of 4 and the various rankings such as Alexa and Technorati continuing to improve as the site grows, I believe this is a good opportunity to reserve your advertising location.
