Transformers :: Movie Review

As I mentioned earlier, I took my son to see the movie Transformers this afternoon.
First, I have to say that it is not a good idea to get your son the large Sprite if you have plans of sitting through an entire 2+ hour movie without having to make a run to the bathroom. ๐Ÿ™‚

Transformers

As for the movie, I have to say that this was a fantastic movie. From beginning to end I was enthralled by the movie and feel that this is one of the movies that has actually lived up to the hype surrounding the film. Michael Bay has done a truly remarkable job with this picture.
While the movie was a bit long at nearly 2 and 1/2 hours, I can honestly say that the movie never left me wanting to check my watch. This is an over-the-top action movie that does not disappoint, although I was somewhat surprised at some of the comedic value found throughout the movie (much of which was over my son’s head).
Shia LaBeouf has done an amazing job as Sam Witwicky and Megan Fox is stunning as Mikaela. Sam is the lovable dorky guy that dreams of even talking to the hot chick at school. They both do a great job at pulling you into their characters, even if some of their lines are a little cheesy and unbelievable. For the guys, be sure to pay attention when Sam and Mikaela take their first ride in his Camaro – wow!

Megan Fox in Transformers

One thing that I did find a bit odd was that there did not seem to be as many Transformers in the movie as I would have thought, as much of the story revolves around the people. Part of the reason that the movie is over two hours is due to the initial setup of the storyline and background before the action kicks off. But as I mentioned, Bay has done a great job of working this into the picture in a way that blends right into the action sequences.
The only complaint that I would have about the movie is that there were times when it was difficult to determine which Transformer was in a particular action sequence. However, the quality of the action and fast-pace more than make up for this minor detail.
I would highly recommend that you see this movie in the theater rather than waiting for the DVD, as I just don’t see your home theater setup doing it justice. Both my son and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and give it the George Foreman Guarantee that you will enjoy it as well.

I heard it was good from the early screeners, but glad to hear that you enjoyed it too. Although I’m sure my home theatre could handle it, I’m not so sure that my neighbours could at the volumes that I would need to play it at ๐Ÿ˜†

Same here, I already had to turn my subwoofer down. That’s one of the downfalls of condo living ๐Ÿ™

That’s the nice thing about living in a house – except we have kids, so I can’t ever sit through a whole movie!

Lol, my wife is always telling me turn the volume down when it is time to watch our movie because the kids are up in bed.

Yep, when the kids are up, they need all of our attention. When they’re asleep, the volume needs to be down!
I have to watch movies with the subtitles on now ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

It really is, you can’t full appreciate the special effects on a small screen – even a 61″ plasma…

Transformers combines the best spcial effects I’ve seen and the typical Spielberg greatness. If you liked War of the Worlds or Jurassic Park, you’ll like this one.

The only possible negative to this situation is Micheal Bay – have you see The Rock?!

@Stephen :: I’m thinking you need to have a post (with pictures) of your home setup!
@Leo :: Quit crying and stop letting your neighbors boss you around. ๐Ÿ˜‰
@Asymmetric :: Great review, thanks for stopping by.

Picture this. I have TWO 10 inch subs in a room that is slightly too small for them. I only run them at 2 or 3 out of 10 and that’s already enough ๐Ÿ˜‰

It’s not the neighbors I’m worried about, it’s the $250 fine each time there’s a complaint.

The only complaint that I would have about the movie is that there were times when it was difficult to determine which Transformer was in a particular action sequence.
Why?
I simply can’t wait to see this movie!!

yeah.. ditto. I don’t think thwat would bother me.

derek July 5, 2007 at 1:41 pm

This didn’t bother me but there some of the fight scenes had multiple Autobots and Decepticons involved and it was hard to distinguish which was which in all of the action.
This really wasn’t a big deal and was a very minor thing that I noticed during the movie, it certainly did not detract from my enjoyment of the movie.

Thanks for the clarification, it didn’t really seem like a big deal…

I can’t wait for GoBots the movie! HAHA

Oooh, GoBots!
I had the Pyscho and Cy-Kill figurines. Cheap-ass Transformer rip-offs ๐Ÿ™‚ Gobots from the planet Gobotron that looked like a half finished Death Star.

Thanks for writing a non spoiler filled review, I think I need to check this out this weekend.

I didn’t want to go too much into the actual details of the movie as I would rather encourage everyone to just see the movie. It’s definitely worth seeing in the theater.

I thought the graphics were amazing, along with the attractiveness of this girl, but other than that I have to say I enjoyed Die Hard 4 a lot more than this movie. This was good, but I enjoyed the plot to Die Hard 4 more. I just want to know why this girl isn’t in more movies.

derek July 7, 2007 at 6:09 pm

I haven’t see Die Hard 4 yet but hope to see it in the theater. My wife won’t go with me for that one and my kids are too young, so I may have to fly solo.
I think Megan Fox will be appearing in more movies in the near future. With her increasing popularity in Maxim and now her role in Transformers, I’m sure she will be getting numerous offers.

There are so many good movies out right now, and I haven’t gotten a chance to see any of them yet… ๐Ÿ™ But your review moved Transformers to the top of my list!

derek July 8, 2007 at 9:45 pm

There are quite a few movies out and I have a few more on my list as well. I really want to see the new Die Hard, as well as Knocked Up and Sicko. In addition, this week the new Harry Potter comes out and my wife wants to see that.
We’ve seen more movies this year than we have probably seen in the last 3 years combined.
What else is on your list of movies to see?

You mentioned taking your son. I took my stepson, and found it was not a good movie for young kids. Honestly it was really targeted at the adults who had grown up with transformers.

One of the best movies I have ever seen, I totally agree with your review. Micheal Bay did more than a good job in this one.
