7 Holes In My House

by derek on July 5, 2007 · 9 comments

With plans to finally sit down and write about the 8 Fun Facts Meme from Leo Chiang, I’ve had to put all of that on hold as I currently have 7 holes in the front of my house.
No, it was not a 4th of July fireworks mishap – although we did have some nice fireworks yesterday. Awhile back we had ordered new replacement windows for the entire home and today is the first day of installation.
As luck would have it, the installers are working on the front of the house today and that is where my office is located. I’ve pulled the cover off the desks and computers long enough to get a quick post out today but as the stifling summer heat is pouring in through the open wall in my office, I cannot sit here too long and not be in their way.
The break from the computer is giving me time to clean up the deck and yard from our 4th of July party yesterday, not to mention that I’ve been able to enjoy a few cold beers in the shade as well.
They’ll be wrapping up the 7 windows in the next few hours and will likely call it a day. That will leave 12 more windows and the new sliding door to be installed but that is all on the back of the house so I shouldn’t be disturbed tomorrow. It will be so nice once all of the windows are installed though, so I can deal with the temporary inconvenience.
Hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th of July for those celebrating!

Scott, thanks for adding my site to your list. I do use this plugin on my personal finance blog as well. You’ve got a nice list of sites going so far.

Speaking of “4th of July fireworks mishaps”…I spent the weekend with the parents at the shore. My father thought it would be to fun to put on his own “fireworks show” for the family out in the street. Having had “a couple” as well I thought I would go give him a hand. Long story short…he ended up lighting a pack of black cats all at once…the fuse went faster than he expected and in a mad dash to get rid of them, ended up throwing the entire lit pack at me. I came away with a nasty burn on the arm and a hole or two in my shirt. Ahh, gotta love beer, it does wonders for common sense.

Wow, glad to hear that you weren’t hurt more than that. Fireworks can really do some damage and is usually not the best to mix with alcohol.

Yes, you are correct, there is a long list of things not to pair with alcohol, and explosives are definitely at the top of the list!
Hope you all had a good 4th. Time to get some posts together before you call me out again for slacking in the post frequency department! LOL. Take care.

I love home improvements, we recently bought a storm door for the front door and it make such a big difference!

I love them too, unfortunately I am not the handiest person otherwise I might love them even more.
I’m looking forward to the new windows as we will likely have a nice little savings on our energy bills given the crummy windows we had before. Although it will still take quite some time to truly pay off the cost of the windows.

I can’t do some of the more “intense” stuff myself, but I try and do as much as I can myself!!
