Glow In The Dark Mini Golf

With our windows still not completed and the installers planning to return tomorrow, I was trying to access my work computer via VPN this afternoon to check my calendar and see if I would be able to work from home.
Unfortunately my work computer had a service that locked up the CPU and while I was able to ping the machine on the network, I could not connect remotely and could not perform a remote reboot either. Therefore I decided it would be best to head into the office to resolve the issue with my machine and check my calendar.
Since the drive to my office is a fairly long trip at 65 miles, I decided to take my wife and kids along for the ride. In an effort to avoid the pure torture of making them endure the drive for no reason, I thought it would be a good opportunity for us to use a gift certificate that I won at work to a glow-in-the-dark mini golf course called Putting Edge.

Putting Edge

At first the kids thought we were just going to my office so they were surprised when we took them to play mini golf. We haven’t played mini golf in quite some time and we have never played at an indoor location, let alone one that glows in the dark.
It wasn’t too crowded so we were not rushed through the course at all. The course was pretty cool as each hole had an assortment of decorations all painted with the glow-in-the-dark paint and some of the hole locations were a little challenging.
We had a blast and I took no mercy on the family coming in with the lowest score. Our youngest son came in 2nd place, although some of his reported scores were a little questionable! In 3rd place was my wife and our oldest son checked in with the highest score of the group. Even though he had the highest score, I think he had the most fun when he would knock my ball away from the hole with his own shot.
We were quite happy that the golf was indoors as it was hot and humid today with temperatures in the mid-90’s. After our round of mini golf, we capped the afternoon off with a stop by the little ice cream shop for a refreshing treat.

As I make plans for leaving the corporate world and work on the internet full time, I’ve been looking into these remote access programs. What can you say about them as far as reliability and usefulness?

Which remote access programs are you referring? I just use remote desktop to connect to my work machine once I authenticate to the VPN. As for the remote reboot, I was simply trying to use the shutdown command.

I thought that you’d be proud that Derek took no mercy on his kids!

Lol, they need to learn that they are not always going to win and I have no problem being the one to give them that lesson. 😉

That is a pretty sweet concept! I’d love to try it out.
Why would you need to VPN in order to do remote desktop?

I believe it’s more secure…

I use VPN in order to authenticate against the corporate domain.

Putting Edge has a handful of locations throughout the US and Canada, so you might be able to find one close to you. Plus I am sure there are other similar places around.
It was a really cool place and I would recommend trying it at least once.

There is a Glow-In-The-Dark place in our mall, but I’ve not been to it yet…

As my mother would say, “In all of my born days, I’ve never seen anything like it!”
Very cool concept, I’m gonna see if there’s anything like that around here. People don’t mini golf as much as they used to. This is a great idea!!

I’m wondering if there was any eyestrain…
Seems like prolonged exposure in ultraviolet light hurts my eyes..

Not at all. It didn’t seem to be overpowering and none of us even commented about it bothering our eyes in the slightest.
Although I think my wife should have used that excuse on some of her shots! 😉

Mini golf does seem to be dying out. Afterwards I mentioned to my wife that this seems to be a very low-cost business. You lease a big space and design the course but then there isn’t too much more to do.
With the course being indoors, you don’t lose out on business during the winter months either. Although depending on your location this might not be an issue.

Yes, you’d just need to employ some youngsters to keep things cleaned, make sure everyone has those tiny pencils and have a snack bar! LOL
