With the next Google PageRank quickly approaching, I thought that I would use this edition of Speedlinking to highlight a few posts related to blogging and being an entrepreneur.
The blogs featured here are staples in my RSS reader as I am sure they are for many of you as well. As we all work hard to improve our blogs and/or businesses, I hope the following posts provide you with some valuable information.
1. CopyBlogger featured a post by Michael Stelzner on IKEA Content: How to Lose Your Readers in Two Minutes or Less. Every time I have been in IKEA, I have commented about the hassle it is to wind your way towards the exit and the layout of the store has been enough to keep me away from casual shopping at the store. Michael does a great job of providing tips on how we can avoid the IKEA trap with our writing.
2. Jane May had a guest post over at John Chow dot Com that highlighted a few things to consider before starting another blog. Right now I have two blogs and have had ideas about starting a few additional blogs, however I have realized that I would not be able to sustain the time commitment and all of my blogs would likely suffer. If you’re considering an additional blog for your portfolio, be sure to give this a read and honestly evaluate the situation.
3. Assuming you have worked through the points made by Jane May, you’ll likely want to consider the advice of Chris Garrett as he urges you to forget about perfection and just do it. Chris has a valid argument here as it is very easy to fall into the trap of thinking everything must be perfect before you can launch an idea. The problem is that perfection is very difficult to achieve and you may have missed your opportunity by the time you are satisfied. As I learned with the feedback on my theme, I would have missed many opportunities had I waited until I had everything perfect.
4. Dawud Miracle shared 6 things Harry Potter taught him about business over at eMoms at Home. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever watched a movie with the intent of looking for any life or business lessons. Usually I am just looking to be entertained but Dawud has taught me to look at things with a new perspective as there are lessons to be learned everywhere. Whether you are running a blog or a full-blown business, you’ll find a few valuable lessons in Dawud’s post.
5. Last but certainly not least, Darren Rowse has been writing a series to Rediscover Your Blogging Groove that included a post on writing link posts. These Speedlinking posts have been so much fun for me to write and hopefully you are enjoying them as well. If you’re planning to write any link posts on your own blog, Darren provides some great tips to help us all write better link posts.
Whether you are new to blogging or have been around for awhile, I hope the posts above provide you with a few ideas that you can implement on your own blogs.

Derek. Thanks for the plug. For some reason I always seem to find life lessons – even spiritual lessons – inside movies. Not all movies, mind you. But in many. I guess I just look for stuff like that.
Thanks for the link love.
You’re welcome Dawud. Just the other night I was up late and watched Deliverance and learned that I should never take a canoe trip. 🙂
Seriously though, I really like the idea of looking for life lessons within movies. One of my favorite movies that did teach me the lesson to never give up and follow your dream was The Girl Next Door – cheesy movie but I get inspired every time I watch it.
Do you know what the date of the next Google PR update will be?
Nope, I’ve read some speculation that it will be next week but that is just people guessing for the most part. I’ll go out on a limb and guess we see the PR update by August 4th.
I think the next PR update will be immediate. Or within a fortnight. Since the last PR update took so long. I have predicted this for a long time and im sure it is soon. So good luck to everyone and well done for linking to other sites a lot of us should do it.
Regards Andrew
PR is updated way to slow and erratically by Google to predict.
