Blogging For Money – July 2007

by derek on August 1, 2007 · 30 comments

July has been an exciting month!
Not only did I get to experience the thrill of having my exploding CD post hit the front page of digg but I ran a fun little contest and met some new people as well.
Just in case that is not enough to make for an exciting month, I followed up the disappointing drop in income from June with a new record setting month in July.
Dollars and Cents
My goal for the month of July was simply to earn more from blogging than I did in June and I am happy to report that I handily beat that goal.

Here is my Blogging For Money recap for July:

  • AdSense:
  • Kontera:
  • ReviewMe:
  • TextLinkAds:
  • Amazon:
  • LinkWorth:
  • Private Ads:
  • AuctionAds:
  • PayPerPost:
  • Misc:
  • Grand Total:
  • $24.17
  • $6.89
  • $0.00
  • $62.81
  • $0.00
  • $0.00
  • $45.00
  • $0.00
  • $22.00
  • $5.00
  • $165.87

My earnings increased by roughly 42% from the month of June and I am benefiting from the lesson that many of us have learned from John Chow in that you need to diversify your sources of income.
While I did see my Google AdSense earnings come back after a decline in June, I had the biggest gain in income from Text-Link-Ads with an increase of over 40% compared to June. Unfortunately I did lose the one spot that had been purchased on this blog but my personal finance blog is sold out.
In addition to the increase with TLA, I’ve gone from $0 to $22 with PayPerPost and have been negotiating another deal for a private advertisement on my personal finance site which is not yet reflected in these numbers.
Also, I was lucky enough to receive my first donation via the “Chopper College” plugin at the end of each post. I’d like to take a moment just to extend my thanks and appreciation to Chris Gray from SEO Ladder. As a note to others, you can be pretty certain that a donation of a few dollars will get you at least one link back from my site! What are you waiting for? 😈
One disappointing piece of data was the drop in Kontera earnings. This is the 2nd month in a row that Kontera has dropped and has me contemplating the long-term use of Kontera on my site. It is possible that the Kontera earnings have been impacted by the summer slowdown so I will likely give it another month or two to see if the earnings pick up again.
Moving Forward
I’m encouraged by the increase in earnings after my decline in the month of June. Not only did I increase my earnings but I made more than I have in any month since I began blogging.
My goal for August is going to continue building on this progress and earn more money than I did in July. I’ll continue to work on diversification across various sources of income and explore additional opportunities to take me to the next level.
Here is to everyone having a successful month in August!

A record breaking month is definitely a great motivator. Keep up the great work, it’s good to see all the different sources of income you have going.

I feel vicariously richer 😉 As you know, my blog is not monetized but I really enjoy your concise recaps and such. Very educational and certainly exciting.
Now make sure you don’t ever show my wife these stats . . . for all the time I spend on my blog, she’d definitely start expecting cash if she saw what you were making!!!

Congrats man! Things are looking up…keep the good stuff coming and thanks for the mention! I used to be addicted to American Chopper (always wanted to learn how to weld)…so as Damien stated, I will too live vicariously through you. Keep an eye on that goal.

It’s good to see progress and hopefully after this PR update your earnings from Text Link Ads should go up. Good luck.

Nice work, so far I only have Adsense but I’m working on getting TLA installed and running.

@Erik :: When I first started I was just using AdSense and branching out to new tools is what has built up the income over time.
@Damien :: Lol, thanks and I will keep things quiet! I don’t even want to think about the hourly wage these earnings actually translate to but I love it anyways.
@Chris :: Thanks and you’re welcome. I’m still shooting for that goal, funny enough I’ve actually thought of taking a welding class at the community college just for fun.
@Ruri :: Thanks.
@Brown Baron :: Thanks, I think so as well. Just try to keep building and keep the momentum train rolling.
@Chamonix :: Just recently the price on the TLA ads on my finance site went up. Be sure to sign up here before the prices go up, great price for a PR4 link let alone the expected PR5 link.
@Simon :: When I first visited your site I thought it hadn’t been updated in months but then realized you just write your dates wrong! 😉 I’ll be spending some time on your site to check things out!
@Leo :: TLA has been great for me on my finance site. It hasn’t done much here yet but I am confident it will work well. It sounds like you’ve already been approved but if you still need to sign up, you can join TLA here. 😈

Everytime I come on this site, I find
great information. I really wanted to say that today ’cause I never have
the time to comment. So I stopped by and left you a praise comment fast.
Keep up the good work.
All you do here always serve me in a way or another in my blogging
activity. If you want to know, I currently make $1,500 to $3,000 every
month since september 2006, and I operate a blog called blogadollar dot
com wich is about "make a lot of
real money online
" and aims to be a REAL-LIFE case study, where I
reveal all day after day. If you want to see it, go to blogadollar dot com.

thanks, maybe we can convince you to post an article with us? I am having my own success which I may disclose on the site I haven’t decided yet.

That sounds interesting. What kind of requirements do you have for posting an article on your site?

You are doing better than I am of course I have no adds on my blog. I do have the buy me a coffee button and have made two dollars. I guess no one wants to buy me coffee. lol Congrats on the money making.

Breakdowns like this prove time and time again that you shouldn’t put all your faith in Adsense. Keep up the good work, Derek. This is why you’ve easily earned your spot in my RSS reader.

Dad always said I needed to diversify my investments…not bad advice when it comes to also monetizing my blog either. Wish I could say I was doing the same over at SEO Ladder 🙁
Great work Derek…your RSS Feed doesn’t lie 😉

@Rose :: Thanks! I’ve had minimal response to the “Buy me…” plugin as well with Chris Gray being my lone donation.
@Michael, @Chris :: Adding multiple options really is the key as if I was relying solely on AdSense I would only be making a couple of dollars each month. BTW, thanks to both for subscribing to my RSS feed. 🙂

@Anastasia & @Nath :: Thanks for adding my RSS feed! 😉
@Hari :: Thanks, how long have you been blogging? It’s taken me some time and a lot of work but the earnings have slowly been increasing.
