Since I began my adventure in blogging last year, I have been trying to persuade my wife to start her own blog but she continues to decline my attempts to help her get started. I’d love to see her give it a try because she is interested in a few topics that I think are great niches and could be quite successful.
The other night she cracked the door of possibility open ever so slightly and I quickly stuck my foot in the door.
My wife is a preschool teacher and the school year is quickly approaching. In an effort to provide a means of communication with the parents, she asked me to help her setup a new email account as she only has a Yahoo account right now and the user name is not very fitting. At first I asked her if she just wanted a new GMail account or an account on my domain and she said that she did not care.
Then it hit me. How about your own domain name?
Before she could say that she didn’t want to do that, I went ahead and registered her name and added the domain to my hosting account at BlueFur. Then I created her an email account, downloaded and configured Thunderbird and she is up and running with her own email address. With the door now cracked open, I can begin to use my persuasive powers to have her develop her site. 🙂
As much as I would like to see my wife join me in the world of blogging, I was happy to see that Damien Riley and his wife Sarah are now blogging spouses. Yesterday Damien had mentioned that his wife Sarah had started a new blog and I’ve already stopped by to give her a welcome to the blogosphere. Be sure to stop by and say hello to Sarah when you have a chance.
For those of you that are married, does your spouse have their own blog? Or maybe you both write on the same blog?
I’ve had some thoughts of running a husband/wife blog together with my wife as I am sure that could result in some rather interesting discussions. My wife is not a technical person at all so it might require quite a bit of convincing on my part but I think it could be fun.
Although maybe I should count my blessings and keep blogging as something of my own! 😉

That’s awsome man!
If you stop blogging we will all know why 😀
Ya gotta bring her in on the fun 😉 She’ll try it out in time I am sure. The technology and free stuff to play with makes it irresistible once one gets into it! The trick is the initial splash. Thanks for linking Sarah’s and my site. I appreciate it buddy!
I’ve tried to get my wife to start a blog, but she just doesn’t see the fun in it. Perhaps I’ll use the same tactic and her a domain name 😛
@Gary :: Lol, send a search party if I disappear. BTW, I love the fact that BlueFur lets me have add-on domains under one account. That makes it much more economical to add another domain like I did.
@Damien :: No problem on the links, glad to do it. She may eventually get interested, although it might take a very long time.
@Jason :: Our wives sound a lot alike. Right now my wife’s one opinion about blogging is that I spend too much time doing it. 🙂
I think Damien got me blogging so I would stop bugging him about spending so much time doing it. It may have worked though since now I’ll be the one needing to be drug off, lol. Thanks for mentioning my page.
Lol, that is why I need to get my wife involved with blogging as well.
You’re welcome for the mention. But you need to work on changing that avatar! 😉
It looks like bloglog doesn’t like me, so for now I have to stay a bald guy named Sarah, lol. Ill keep working on it, maybe eventually Ill get it fixed.
My wife has no interest in blogging ( 🙁 ), she’s not the type to put any information for the whole world to see – although, I was really surprised to see that she opened a Facebook account!
My wife won’t blog. She doesn’t like all the behind the scenes work that comes with blogging. It’s fine with me really. She’s a gamer though. We’ve been play condition zero online for a couple of years and it’s been great. Good luck buddy haha.
My husband doesn’t want to, but he has agreed to do write something for the blog. he hs a graphic designer, so we we are going to integrate some ideas… 🙂
“She will be assimilated resistance is futile.” Joe of Borg
LMAO.
Great post.
Seriously she could open a huge door in and of itself for teachers and the everyday struggles that teaching entails. Like teaching on a budget and how to get the most out of what resources you do have available to you as a teacher.
@Saman :: I don’t think my wife has even heard of Facebook as she doesn’t get too involved with the computer.
@Brown Baron :: It sounds like the blogging spouses is pretty rare to find. That’s cool that you guys have found something else online that you both share an interest.
@Melissa :: Interesting that your husband is in a technical field yet doesn’t want to blog. That’s cool that he will write something for you though, does he provide you with nice graphics/images as well?
@Joe :: That is actually one type of site that I’ve tried to encourage her to start. My wife isn’t really a computer whiz but she has taught the other teachers at her school so many things. They had no idea so many things were available online.
Derek, he does make me a lot of graphics for business cards, brochures, logos etc. He also makes all the headers for the web sites that I do. We are working on a new logo for SEOAware. I need to have a custom blog and then use the logo…lots of work to do 🙂
my wife is also not interessed in blogging
I tried this with mine a few months ago, but sadly never got past to the first post….Hope you have better look
His and Her blogs. Huh, I guess it’s the sign of the times.
Diggin’ the new theme, derek.
@Melissa :: Does he freelance at all? My graphic skills are not all that great so it is always nice to know of someone if the need arises.
@Dirk :: The thing my wife is hung up on right now is she doesn’t feel that she would have anything interesting to say that people would want to read.
@Simon :: Thanks, I might try having her write a guest post here to get her started.
@Leo :: Lol, yeah. As long as she can blog from the kitchen, I’m all for it. 😉
@Derrich :: Thanks!
Too bad I’m 3 weeks late. :\
Nothing a free Retox t-shirt won’t fix! 😉
Consider it done.
Derek, he does do freelance work (mostly for my clients). He works full-time, but the extra money is always a good thing. I have one in high school, so we are trying to save for college while paying the bills… 🙂
I’ll keep him in mind the next time I need some graphic work done. I know how it is to try and earn some extra scratch to save for college, we’ve got two youngsters that I’d like to save enough to cover all of their costs.
you definitely stuck your foot in the door…and then some 🙂 pretty cool that you got the domain. sometimes it takes a little creativity to think of what the person might want to blog about. has to be something she won’t get tired of writing about. good luck, it’s always beneficial to have a blogging buddy, spouse or not 🙂
Yeah, I’ve given her a few ideas on things she is interested in that I think would transition well to a blog. We’ll see if I ever convince her.
You’re right that it is helpful to have a blogging buddy and thus far none of my family/friends are into the blogging so I’ve only got my virtual blogging buddies such as yourself. 🙂
Nope, I haven’t gotten my wife into the world yet, but I commend you for your efforts. I hope it works out for the best for you and her.
One thing you could do is ask her to write a guest post on this blog. If she likes the experience, you got yourself a blogging buddy/spouse/guest blogger hehe.
Yeah, I mentioned that earlier and think that might be the best way to introduce her to the world of blogging. It isn’t quite as intimidating to write one post with no other commitment.
Thanks for the suggestion!
My husband started a blog at one of his sites, but he is not really into the whole blogging thing. I think that it is great that Sarah started blogging. I hope your wife does too.
My girlfriend is interested in strarting a blog but doesn;t know quite what to focus on yet.
She loves to write, so blogging is ideal. I tried to get her setup at the weekend but as I said she isn’t quite sure how to go about it.
We are definately moving forward though. My recently new blog has inspired her, so I imagine it won’t be long before we are a blogging couple. lol 🙂
Matt, glad to hear that your girlfriend is interested in blogging. She might want to just start writing a few articles, even if she doesn’t have a blog yet. That might help her identify what she wants to write about.
Or she can start a personal blog and just write about anything and everything, developing a niche as she progresses. Good luck.
Good idea. Mine is also going to take a bit of time before I manage to develop a more defined niche.
thanks 🙂
I tried to get my wife to start blogging but she definitely wasn’t interested.
