Scion tC Contest

How would you like a chance to win a Scion tC?
Prija, the self-proclaimed sneaky bastard over at Blogging the Movie, has kicked off a contest to win a free Scion tC.
Given that the car chosen for the contest is a Scion tC and I drive a tC for myself, I had to give this a little mention here. 🙂
However, reviewing the posts about the car contest do not really reveal any details on how the winner of the car will be selected as the focus is more on what you will receive if you sign up as a sponsor.
Details
Prija is attempting to sell 500 ad spots for $100 each, which will cover the cost of two Scion tCs (one is apparently for his sister), sticker ads for each of the sponsors to be placed on both vehicles, booth at Blog Word Expo and initial filming of the documentary. By purchasing one of the ad spots you will receive:

  • Your domain advertised on both of the vehicles
  • Two reviews of your site – minimum 200 words each
  • Permanent link on the page about the car contest

Questions
Reading through the information will likely leave you with a few questions, hopefully Prija will stop by and help shed some light on these as I have a few myself:

  • Do I have to buy a sponsored ad to be eligible for the free car?
  • How will the winner of the car be selected?
  • When will the winner be selected?
  • If you only get enough money to buy one car, will you buy the car for your sister first?
  • Is this a scam like Ashwin Khanna’s contest for $2500? After all, Priija is the sneaky bastard.

I’ll be following along to watch the progress of this contest as I think it is a really cool idea and has some potential. Being a blogger with a shoestring budget, I’m not sure that I have $100 to throw my name into the mix but it would be kind of cool to have my domain plastered on two Scion tCs.
What do you think about this contest?

I think this contest has some great potential. That said, Prija does need to add quite a bit more content to his site as it’s just a little bare. I’ve already discussed this matter with him and he assures me it’s on the way.
Of course, I’d love to get my domain thrown onto a car. If I can pick the spot, I’d want it to be plastered in the top 5″ of the front and rear windshields and have them stretch right across. I’m sure this would cost more than $100, and it would be interesting if an ad on certain parts of the car would come at a higher value than others. With 100 stickers on a car, there’s a good possibility the investment may never get noticed. But a nice $500 spot on the top of a windshield would always catch someone’s eye 🙂

For a hundred bucks, I can plaster my own car with stickers that advertise my own sites 🙂
You have a Scion tC Derek! Just put your sites on your own Scion tC! In fact, you could give yourself a deal and plaster them anywhere you want and as many as you want =)

Lol, maybe I should be selling ads on my car. After all, I drive 1-2 hours each way to work on some of the most congested highways in the country so there would be plenty of eyes on those ads.
Anyone interested? 🙂

That really isn’t a bad idea – and I believe that you can write it off on your taxes as a business expense…

Pretty cool prize, but seems like a lot of money to invest for what will likely turn out to be a long-shot at winning…and I thought I was being generous with my giveaway at a $50 value.

Stepping up with a car. Nicely done. Any chance I could get a sticker on your Scion too, D?

What if you don’t sell all your ads?
Full refund on 09/01/2008. However you will still get your permanent link and 2 free reviews. I pride myself on customer satisfaction.
Do I have to buy a sponsored ad to be eligible for the free car?
No, you do not have to buy a sponsored ad for the free car. It’s free. Free to all bloggers. Haha. Sponsors get publicity for sponsoring the car.
How will the winner of the car be selected?
The winner will be a random draw. Considering the magnitude of the size of this prize. I’m currently considering a 3rd party, maybe a small accounting firm in Orange County to select the winner. This would erase all doubt of being a setup prize where it will be given away to a fake account or friend.
When will the winner be selected?
The winner will be selected after the contest is held. The contest will be held once the car is bought. The car will be bought once all the sponsorships have been bought.
How long will the domain ads be displayed on the cars?
They winner will be contracted to have the ad on the car for 4 years.
If you only get enough money to buy one car, will you buy the car for your sister first?
Both cars will be bought at the same time. Both will be videotaped, if dealer permits. It will be part of the movie.
Is this a scam like Ashwin Khanna’s contest for $2500? After all, Prija is the sneaky bastard.
This is true. Prija is a sneaky bastard, however he is an honest sneaky bastard. I always reveal my secrets. The publicity from giving away the car will generate media hype than the 50k. I plan to market out to newspapers, media and and big things. I’m thinking dateline, NBC, Oprah; you know the works. I have one life. This is my shot. Haha. BTW you’ll be receiving a permanent link and 2 reviews. The only thing people have to worry about is waiting until all 500 bloggers buys a spot before the car contest can take off. But it’s all about being patient. That’s why if the car is not bought within a YEAR – 09/01/08. I will give everyone a full refund and everyone will still get there permanent link and reviews. How’s that for customer satisfaction. Being sneaky is not lying or being a scam. Sneaky means to reveals one secret and still have the ability to move the masses.

Prija, thank you for taking the time to stop by and answer some of the questions.
I like the idea of the refund by next year if the ads do not sell out and the cars are not purchased. Also, I was pleased to see that you will be buying both cars at once as that removes some of the concern that this is just an attempt to get your sister a free car and nothing more.
I’ll be keeping an eye on your contest.

I wouldn’t pay $100 for a small car ad…but, hey, if others are willing to do it and he/she gets a car out of it why not?
