Stop The Insanity :: Anti-Croc Movement

Crocs for Men

This is a call to all of the men in the audience – stop wearing crocs!
I’m going to assume that everyone is familiar with what crocs are but if you are one that is lucky enough not to know, please keep it that way.
Lately it seems like everyone and their mother is wearing these shoes and I do not personally understand the appeal. While everyone claims that they are extremely comfortable, I do not believe any amount of comfort can compensate for how hideous these shoes look.
The image above is a snapshot of the selection of crocs in the men’s line of shoes. Call me crazy but those all look like women’s shoes to me. If you are out in public and see a man wearing these crocs, please walk up to him and revoke his “man card” at once.
Not only are these shoes extremely ugly but as was discussed on the Covino and Rich show on Sirius, there have been reports of people getting their feet stuck on escalators. In particular, there have been a few children that have reportedly been injured. That alone should be reason enough to stop the insanity and toss these “swoot shoes” in the trash.
Stop the insanity! Join the anti-croc movement!
While I don’t think it can happen, I will entertain comments that try to plead the case of crocs but I stand by my belief that no man should ever be seen wearing these swoot shoes.

Amen! I never understood how these ever became as big as they are

No doubt – not only should they ditch the men’s lines, but the women’s and children’s too!

Down with Crocs!!! There is no way in hell you could get me to even entertain the thought of putting on a pair of these.
One of my oldest son’s friends from school came over wearing a neon green pair. I nearly died…

Leo September 21, 2007 at 7:47 pm

The only time you should be wearing these is if you work in a kitchen or a garden.

Reply

Chris Gray September 21, 2007 at 8:00 pm

LOL…! Doesn’t that Iron Chef wear those on the Food Network?

Derek I agree with you completely! And I’d go as far as saying that women should NEVER be seen wearing them either!
Honestly, they are glorified hospital theater shoes, and they make your feet look massive! This is not a cool look for anyone…please people in the interest of humanity…STOP wearing Crocs!!!!!!!
I pledge to support the Anti-Croc Movement in any way I can! πŸ™‚

All of you are the best! πŸ˜€
The guys on the radio, Covino and Rich, have said before that you should go up to people wearing them – stomp on their foot and say you’re the Croc Hunter.
Mel, I am with you that women shouldn’t wear them either but I didn’t want to pile on in one post. πŸ™‚

Crocks are hideous. I would never buy a pair myself, however, my girl friend has a pair and she keeps wanting me to wear them, good luck girl.

Damien Riley September 21, 2007 at 11:21 pm

lmao. Funny perspective on shoes. Remember Jellies in the late 80’s? My sisters had them, they were hideous as well.

Reply

????? (Jason) September 22, 2007 at 12:53 am

Ugh … Jellies were just as bad as these things. I don’t get why Crocs became so popular, either. However, being a computer programmer for a while, I figured that I was just incredibly out of touch with fashion….

Reply

ms danielle September 24, 2007 at 1:08 am

these are way more offensive than jellies. these also remind me of the little shoes i used to put on my barbie dolls. how hideous they look at life size…
they do look tolerable on babies though. no grown person, man or woman, should ever put these on their feet.

Reply

Gary September 22, 2007 at 9:19 am

Oh come on. These shoes are great. They are very comfortable, cheap and the look is great. They scream self confidence. Crocs are great!

Reply

Gary September 22, 2007 at 9:25 am

That Croslite stuff that the shoes are made of is a wonder. Doesn’t get smelly, forms to your foot, is durable and I love my flip flops and and regular styles. Real men wear CROCS!

Reply

JJ September 22, 2007 at 11:48 am

Sorry, but this kind of stuff is just more evidence of why this country is on the downward slope. Why anyone bothers wasting energy writing junk like this is beyond me. Let people wear whatever the hell they want. It shouldn’t be your concern and you should spend time doing something more productive. No one cares about your opinion, especially the people who wear Crocs. In fact, anyone who frets so much over what other people think about their fashion choices has an image problem. And it seems like this blogger has some sort of beef outside of Crocs themselves and should just leave people alone.

Reply

Damien Riley September 22, 2007 at 2:03 pm

JJ: Did you try decaf today? If they are comfy then I ay wear ’em with pride! I think you missed the humor of the post . . . but that’s just me. peace.

I like wearing crocs. It is comfortable and cool looking. Especially in hot summer.

Reply

krillz September 23, 2007 at 7:12 pm

Haha, here in Sweden they are only popular within the medical staff, thankfully!
Indeed the ugliest footwear ever invented.
But with them being banned from medical facilities now is only good news, they’ll finally vanish forever. (apparently they caused some static energy building up, and took out/interfered with some equipment, resulting in some deaths in the Scandinavian countries)

Reply

Daniel September 24, 2007 at 3:15 am

No, these things do not scream self confidence. They scream “hey I’m a guy who wants to look self confident.”
The shoes are retarded and should not be worn by anyone over the age of 12, and that’s pushing it already. How this thing ever got to be so popular is something I will always wonder.
I hate the damn things is what I’m saying…

Reply

krillz September 24, 2007 at 4:47 am

you mean by people younger than 70. I can understand old folks wearing this, and it wouldn’t be as horrible either.

Reply

Jeff September 24, 2007 at 9:01 am

beauty is the eye of the beholder. Fashions change…not sure why any “man card” carrying memeber would worry about what other people think of their footwear. They are comfortable, extremely comfortable, addictively comfortable. They clean up easily, they’re cheap, they float and they don’t stink. What could be more utilitarian than that? And doesn’t any true Man value form over function? Or are you too worried about what the “fashionistas” think, you silly gurl…

I love Crox, they are the bomb!! The first time I saw crox was on a bus in Hawaiii 06, A guy was wearing them, the big yellow beach model. I had to ask him what and who made them. My only mistake was not buying the stock!!!. The shoes are hot.
So stop hating. And yes, I own a pair and I have some stocks.

Reply

MP September 24, 2007 at 10:34 am

Have any of you naysayers ever worn the shoe???? It is by far the most comfortable shoe ever created. Give it a try before you complain . . . otherwise you just sound not very smart (I would use a harsher word if I could).

Reply

Reply

Ron Jeremy likes to wear them, so if your nickname is “The Hedgehog” I guess its cool πŸ˜‰
Relax people, Derek meant this as a humorous post, not one meant to be hateful or a blanket statement for all croc wearers.

Reply

Ken September 24, 2007 at 2:32 pm

I’m a straight 41-year-old guy. I wear Crocs. I agree they’re ugly, but sheesh they are comfortable. So who cares how they look? I wear them in public, I wear them to work, I wear them at home. My feet and back feel better as a result. If that’s your basis for revoking my “man card,” then you may have it and good riddance.
As for escalators vs. Crocs, I ask you to find data showing how many kids get their shoelaces caught in escalators and compare it to Crocs incidents before you trash Crocs on the hear-say of recent media reports that lack such fair reporting. My toddler has Crocs and I’m glad she does. She loves escalators too. However, I care enough to help her on the moving stairs, unlike other parents who apparently do not do so with their own kids.

Reply

ms danielle October 7, 2007 at 6:35 pm

why did you write that you’re straight? anyway, great comment! i think they’re hella ugly, but as they say, if the shoe fits, wear it. especially if it’s super comfy. personally, i don’t think it’s an issue of manlihood, more an issue of style. if you can confidently rock something that other people think is ugly and say screw you, then You Da Man!!! πŸ˜€
anywho…rock on…i dig your attitude!

Wow, I never expected a fun little post on a Friday afternoon to stir up so many thoughts on crocs vs. anti-crocs but it has been interesting.
I’d like to pass along thanks to everyone for jumping in and sharing their feedback. Given the number of people that showed support of the anti-croc movement, I’m surprised that they sell as well as they do.
BTW, whoever said my opinions were just in humor? πŸ˜‰

Hi,
The Yahoo! finance area for CROX had a posting from someone who linked to your blog.
You really, really ought to try them before knocking them. As I said, I agree they are ugly in most cases but the comfort value overweighs that concern. Also, there are quite a few models that come in neutral colors, and their fall/winter selection will include fleece-lined models and others that don’t look nearly as bad as the bright-colored beach models.
Simply trying them on doesn’t count: you won’t get as good a feel for them as walking even a block or two or standing in them for a couple hours. That’s when they form to your feet and convey their real qualities.

Ken, thanks for the feedback on where you came across my site.
As much as I understand your point about trying them before knocking them, I can say without a doubt that I will never spend money on these shoes for myself. Just like I have never spent a penny at Best Buy in over 10 years, but that is a story for another day.

Haha these crocs are everywhere. I haven’t had enough courage to buy a pair for myself though. there way over priced to.
Maybe the black ones or the white ones I could wear but I wouldn’t be seen dead in the florescent orange ones or the yellow ones. Sometimes I see these big macho men strutting round in these. Whats up with that? Wake up man! You look like a homo!!! πŸ™‚

@Subconscious :: I’m with you there, thanks for the feedback.
@Shaiju :: From what I have been told they are extremely comfortable but some things just aren’t worth it. πŸ™‚
@Scottsdale :: Glad to have you as part of the anti-croc movement!
@Bobby :: Lol, I thought they were women’s shoes as well until I started seeing the neighborhood kids and even some of the dads wearing them – our house is up for sale now. πŸ™‚
@Jagad :: I don’t even have a clue as to how expensive they are as I have never been interested enough to even look.

Gary September 29, 2007 at 5:09 pm

Crocs are comfortable, crocs are cheap, and crocs are convenient around the house everyday shoes.
They are easy to clean, take on and off and carry around in a bag or car.
You are not wearing them to a wedding, church or your grandmother’s birthday.
They are not that ulgy either.

Do you have nothing better to do than whine about shoes? Come on get a life. Who cares if you don’t like the way something looks. I’m sure you have multiple things in your closet that I would think are hideous but you don’t see me making a freaking blog about it. Grow up!

Reply

derek January 25, 2008 at 9:20 am

There are likely plenty of things in my closet that quite a few people would think are hideous – and you know what – if they wanted to write about it that would be just fine by me.
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your opinion.

would have to agree with derek – crocs are horrible looking things for people who have given up – if you want something plastic and comfortable then get some FITFLOPS – at least they have street cred – or just pull on your converse or kedds and learn to fecking tie your laces again ( in 40 years time our grand children will ask us “hey grandpa show us how you used to tie your laces in the olden days” – and breathe…………….phew
