Speedlinking – 24 Sep 2007

by derek on September 24, 2007 · 9 comments

As last week came to a close, I capped off an exciting week with a post about the anti-croc movement that certainly resulted in some interesting discussion.
To capture a little bit of that excitement, I wanted to bring you a few new faces that were a part of my week for this edition of Speedlinking. While a few of these names may be new to you, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with what you find on their sites so I encourage you to pay each of them a visit.
1. Marty Weintraub touches on a critical component of social media when he posted about the enduring power of good manners. Remember these tips when interacting with others in your online life just like you would (hopefully) in your offline life.
2. Michael Dorausch put together a great recap of my Sphinn head-to-head battle with none other than Andy Beard. I don’t think I could have asked for a much more interesting introduction for my first Sphinn submission!
3. Continuing the theme of social media, Tim Nash put together a detailed look at the StumbleUpon mathematics for stumblers. This is a great look at Tim’s understanding of how the SU algorithm works and how that may be important to you.
4. Bobby Revell provides an interesting post on SEO keywords for beginners, although I think there are a few things that most of us can learn as well. Take a look and see if you can find any new tips to use on your own site.
5. Leo Chiang did his best to show me that maybe I was wrong when I said BlogRush is a flop as he used the widget to find a great video on why Asian guys can’t get white girls.
Speedlinking Lives!
Last week I had asked for feedback on my Speedlinking series and the overall response was very supportive of these posts. I’ve really enjoyed sharing some of the sites and posts that I enjoy so I will plan to continue with Speedlinking.
As always, please feel free to contact me if you authored or found a particularly interesting piece of content. In addition, I encourage you to share the link love on your site as that helps all of us find new and interesting blogs to read.
I hope you enjoyed this edition of Speedlinking!

Hi Derek! I want to say thank you very much! I will definetly check out the other folks you have selected.
I am not going all out on using keywords because I don’t really want to build my site around google. Sure google is thought of as the king of search engines, but when you’re the king, lots of powerful corporations want you to fall.
So I apply a very basic approach to keywords and I never discount the importance of other important ratings from Alexa, Technorati, Yahoo, etc.
Thanks Derek, you have a great week! I’ll definetly be back!!!!!

Congrats there Derek with your Sphinn head-to-head battle with you know who. I have my own opinion of the Sphinn crowd but I’ll save that.
I noticed some of your new links were from Sphinn members.

Hello,
This is my first time visiting your blog, and I should probably leave some sort of thoughtful and engaging comment that will leave a good impression, but alas that’s not what comes to mind. Here’s what ya get:
“Leo Chiang did his best to show me that maybe I was wrong when I said BlogRush is a flop as he used the widget to find a great video on why Asian guys can’t get white girls.”
Muhahahah. That’s great. πŸ˜›
In a stab at adding something more constructive, I was glad to see your post on BlogRush not being all that. I didn’t bother trying it on any of my blogs either. πŸ˜‰

@Bobby :: You’re welcome. That is a great approach that you are taking and very similar to my own approach. Hope to see you around.
@Rose :: Thanks, you’re right that a few of these posts/sites were found via Sphinn. I’ve only been using Sphinn for a short time but I’ve met some really great people.
@Nick :: The electrical work went well without any problems. I finally found the circuit that was providing juice to the dining room and have since relabeled that breaker to include the DR.
@Annie :: Welcome to the site, hope you will become a regular visitor! Thanks for sharing your feedback and for the thoughtful and engaging comment. πŸ™‚
@WTO :: Always happy to help share the link love.

Thanks for the link πŸ™‚ much appreciated,
Sphinn is turning into a very interesting community its been nice to see how varied the front page has been and how the number of sphinns to the front has gone up which can only be down to its continued success.

You’re welcome Tim! I’m glad that I found your site and that post via Sphinn, which I have really been enjoying as I’ve found so many great posts and met quite a few very nice people as well.
Thanks for stopping by!

The stumble post was very interesting. I have had amazing results with Stumble. In fact it beats out Google now on many of my blogs. Yet I never put any thought into Stumble and how it works.
