Earlier this week I was tagged in a meme to help spread the word about the charity event being sponsored by Internet Marketers of New York (IMNY) to benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
This meme was originated by Marty Weintraub, who recently shared his story about when he was diagnosed with Stage 3B lymphoma. It is simply amazing to see the attitude that Marty had when he approached this difficult time in his life.
Over the last few months I have had the pleasure of chatting with Marty via email and the phone and was quite touched by his willingness to help someone he had just met and I could tell that he still had that amazing outlook on life.
So what is this charity event all about?
For those heading to SMX Social Media, you have been specifically invited to attend the Internet Marketers of New York Charity Party.
The party is being sponsored by Best of The Web and all that they ask is for you to simply donate $40 at the door to help the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society fight cancer and enjoy three hours of open bar partying with fellow social internet marketers.
For those not able to attend SMX Social Media or the charity event, you can still donate to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of this event – the process is very easy and it supports a very worthy cause.
Spread the Word
Since Marty initiated this as a meme to try and help spread the word, I will go ahead and tag three additional bloggers that I think can help spread the word even more:
- ShoeMoney – I know he is a big fan of Best of The Web and they are sponsoring this event so maybe he can help spread the word.
- John Chow – Sure he is the root of all evil but every now and then he does something nice, doesn’t he?
- Creative Traffic Builders – Danielle and Gary just started this site but it is about driving traffic so maybe they can jump in as well.
If you’re attending the event, please stop by the party and help a good cause! If you run into Marty, tell him that Derek says hello! 🙂

Thank you Derek. I appreciate you helping to promote the event.
You’re welcome Marty. It is my pleasure to try and help in any way possible.
I like the idea of tagging ShoeMoney and John Chow because they would definitely give it some exposure. While the idea is good in theory, I’m not sure how effective it is because they may or may not read your blog and feel it is important enough to merit a post on their blog. At any rate, it seems like a good cause.
You’re right that it is difficult to even get it in front of them. I tried emailing each of them to mention it but I am sure their volume of email makes even that difficult.
Way to support others guys. Awesome to see the A listers throwing their weight behind something like this.
nice way to raise funds for the charity! keep it up!
