Blogging For Money – October 2007

Four months in a row!
Starting with my July earnings, I have now achieved four consecutive record-breaking months in terms of blogging for money. It has all been a learning experience and I continue to experiment with new methods of monetizing my blogs, enjoying every step of the way.
As a matter of disclosure, the majority of these earnings are a result of my personal finance blog, although there are some earnings from this blog and a small amount earned via an advertisement on a very well known site.
Dollars and Cents
My goal for the month of October was to continue the trend of record-breaking earnings for a fourth consecutive month and I was able to squeeze out just enough to accomplish this goal.

Here is my Blogging For Money recap for October:

  • AdSense:
  • Kontera:
  • ReviewMe:
  • TextLinkAds:
  • Amazon:
  • LinkWorth:
  • Private Ads:
  • AuctionAds:
  • PayPerPost:
  • Misc:
  • Grand Total:
  • $55.38
  • $11.05
  • $0.00
  • $90.90
  • $0.00
  • $27.10
  • $158.50
  • $0.00
  • $0.00
  • $50.00
  • $392.93

When compared to the numbers from September, I have seen an increase in my earnings from AdSense, Text Link Ads, and private advertisement sales. At the same time, my earnings from Kontera and LinkWorth have dipped slightly.
After an increase of approximately 30% last month, I was somewhat disappointed to see that my earnings have only increased by roughly 3% in October. However, progress is progress and I am pleased with the results – although not satisfied.
Plans for November
With the recent page rank penalties being distributed by Google – which I was impacted by on my personal finance blog – I am not sure what November will bring.
Will the slight drop in my page rank impact the earning potential of my blog? Time will tell.
Should I even be posting these updates that disclose that I have earned money from links on one of my blogs? Time will tell again but I do not have any plans of stopping. I enjoy writing these update posts and based on the response that they typically receive, all of you enjoy reading them as well.
Will there be a fifth consecutive month of record earnings? Drum roll please…time will tell. I’m really shooting to break through the $400 per month level and continue to build upon my previous success.
October was most definitely a busy month for me, as I entered the first full month of writing at Dad Balance while also maintaining my other blogs and juggling the time with my family and that pesky day job. There will no doubt be additional challenges to overcome in November but I am looking forward to pushing myself to see what can be accomplished.
Here is to everyone accomplishing their blogging goals, whether that happens to include blogging for money or not. As always, feel free to ask any questions or drop me a note if there is anything that I can do to help you out.

I don’t know how you do it . . . it must be your ability to have “Dad Balance.” 😉

Lol, sometimes my wife has to remind me that I have no balance – which usually gives me a few new posts to write about balance. 😉

I am happy for you and congratulate you on your achievement. It is all the more remarkable considering all that you say you do. Frankly, I do not think that I can do half of what you are doing. My best wishes for your continued success.

Congratulations on the continued success and good luck on making it 5 straight months

Congrats on the continued success, even making the same amount is better than losing 🙂 At least there is consistency. I’m sure it will keep growing by good amounts over the next few months if you keep up with the work.

@FS :: Yes, I am a software engineer by day.
@HRS :: Thanks! It hasn’t always been easy to juggle work, family, and blogging. There have been many, many nights with only a couple of hours of sleep as a result.
@Matt :: Thanks for the encouragement!
@Erik :: Thanks, I’ll be doing my best to make it 5 months in a row and am working on a few things now that might make that possible.
@Dave :: Thanks for the vote of confidence!

Derek,
which ads are the textlink ads? I have only had experience with Google, Yahoo, Project Wonderful and private sale.
also…were you one of the Blog Rush users that was deleted?

Good thing you have that earning … I haven’t earn that much when I tried to monetize my blog about two years ago.

Man I wish I could make some money off my site sometime….want to at least bid on an ad space? At the rate the bids are going, they will likely be free again!

Do you think the Kontera advertising is worth it? I don’t personally use it on any of my sites.
I know some people who find this sort of ads annoying, For $11 in a month, is it worth your while? Does the (possible) annoyance to users warrant it? Could you get/keep more readers without it and possible earn more from the other forms of advertising?

The great thing about Kontera is that it doesn’t take up any extra space on the site. One thing to remember is that most people will come for the content and not be swayed one or another based on ad programs.

Sure, *most* people!
That was kind of my point, the others. It is ugly thought, no?
