Last night and today I spent far too much time scrounging around the basement looking for an old folder that contains a collection of short stories and poems that I wrote while in high school.
In the process, I came across the following words scratched on the back of a piece of paper and shoved into a folder to be forgotten. Since I never did find the folder that I desired, I thought it would be fun to share what I did find.
Reflection
Keys clicking.
Phones ringing.
In the dark night,
looking at my reflection.
Trying to look out
but all I can see is in.
Trapped.
Man eating popcorn,
never stops chewing.
More.
And more.
Why am I watching?
Trapped.
Ring.
Ring.
Beep beep.
Hi honey.
Tickets please.
No more popcorn.
No more clicking.
No more ringing.
Reflection still staring back.
Final stop.

Wow. I like the subtle imagery of quiet desperation. It’s a nice snapshot of something I felt in High School also.
Thanks Damien. The funny (depending on how you look at it I guess) is that the stories/poems that I wrote in high school would likely have me expelled from school today. If not this weekend then next I plan to search the house from bottom to top looking for that folder.
Glad you liked it.
Derek, did you experiment with a lot of drugs when you were younger? Sounds to me like you just had a case of the munchies 😉
Wow! nice one dude. Its cool. I liked ur poetry. Two thumbs up.
@Leo :: I can neither confirm nor deny your allegations, lol.
@Wii :: Thanks!
Nice poetry Dude and it is cool one too.
Cool Derek, It is nice to see a poet in the blogger. Keep it up. I think you must write more of such poems.
I don’t usually spend a lot of time reading poetry. But Derek this is some good writing. Maybe do it in a book and try publish it.
Regards Andrew
Hey! That was pretty cool. Adolescent angst and what have you.
Nice poetry man! good luck in your future! 🙂
@vxhn :: Thanks.
@Andrew :: Thanks, I think it would be cool to publish a book but I don’t have nearly enough to write.
Simply amazing. I think that you should seriously consider writing poetry now too.
@FS :: Thanks for the feedback!
@UK :: Thanks!
@HRS :: Thanks, I’ve never considered my poetry to be very good so I have been shocked at the feedback. Now I really want to find my old stuff so I can share more. And I might just have to try writing some new stuff as well.
Derek:
Did you ever find the OTHER folder? How did the poem above find its way into another folder?
No, I haven’t found the other folder yet. The poem above was written at a different time and that is why I had it stashed away in a different location.
Last night on my way home from work I had the beginnings of a new poem running through my head.
Derek:
Good luck with the new poem. I just had one poem rejected by a college literary journal, and another rejected by The New Yorker.
