Riding Season Is Almost Here

by derek on March 21, 2008 · 18 comments

There have been a few days here and there where cranking up the old Harley has been feasible, although it still requires a fair amount of warm clothing to keep any chance of comfort within reach. But the days are beginning to get a little warmer here in the middle of the country and it won’t be long now until riding season is in full force.
Towards the end of last summer, you might recall that I posted about my wish list of Harley Davidson Accessories that I had hoped to install. Unfortunately the winter months have come and gone – for the most part – and the bike has not received any modifications.

Harley Rocker

This year Harley has come out with a few models that I really like – such as the Rocker pictured above. As much as I would love to trade in the 2002 Softail that I have right now, I have to say that the most economical route is to pick up the desired HD parts that are on my wish list and enjoy my bike a little more.
It would be really nice to have the ability to have two bikes, as I would really love to have one bike for commuting to work and touring while also having more of a solo bar hopper style bike for cruising around town and riding with my buddies.

Harley Cross Bones

While I drool over the Cross Bones – another bike that I would welcome to my garage in a heartbeat – I will continue to set aside the earnings from this blog to hopefully use when I find the right deals on a few discount Harley parts.
Although maybe I should really set my sights high and see if I can build this blog up to the point where I can just purchase one of the new bikes to keep my Softail company when I am not out on the road!

Frankly I envy you. I used to be a biker too till I had to get my hips replaced. I miss riding them. You have no idea how frustrating it is not to be able to do so. I wish you many happy hours of riding and hope that you will be able to modify your bike to your liking.

Can’t wait! I bought an 02 CBR F4i that has been sitting in my garage since the beginning of winter unregistered. Couple more weeks and I’ll start getting it on the road. That reminds me that I need to get the new rear tire put on.

I can’t wait for the weather to get nice. There is nothing better than those first warm spring days.

While I’m not a huge HD enthusiast, I do love the Crossbones as well. My husband is looking to upgrade this year, I think he’s going to go for a used Road King. While I’m jealous, I do love my bike and have no problems riding it for a few more seasons!
I say keep what you got and bolt some shiny bits onto it. You’ll still be happy!

I thought about getting a motorcycle, and really want to, but a certain girlfriend of mine won’t allow it. Plus, I don’t have the money anyways lol. Gotta pay off my loan, pay for gas and insurance on my car….all the good stuff.

@HRS :: Thanks, what was/were the bike(s) that you used to ride?
@Nirali :: Lol, my wife has expressed an interest a few times but she feels she is too short to confidently handle my bike. Right now she is looking at a scooter to get around town on as her introduction to riding.
@Dave :: A new CBR and a new Viper? You just need to stop rubbing it in already, lol.
@pauletet :: Careful, drooling over your keyboard can cause problems. 🙂
@NDC :: Agreed, just when our weather was getting a little warmer we had about 7-10 inches of snow dumped on us.
@Liz :: Glad to hear you are doing well. In the end I am happy with any bike just to be out riding but hopefully the funds will be there for some new mods.
@Sean :: Sounds like you need a new girlfriend! 😉 Maybe down the road a bike will be in your future. I’d recommend one of the safety classes, maybe with your girlfriend, as that can be a good chance to see how you feel on a bike and learn some great safety tips.

I have to ride to work on my bike come rain or shine, no alternative. Still I arrive at work in a very different frame of mind when the sun’s shining. Roll on the summer!

I think motor cycle is very advisable to use nowadays because it is more economic with fuel and less traffic.

@Sean, I was gonna say what Derek said, maybe a new gorlfriends 🙂
Still if you’ve got other stuff as well, maybe she wants you to get rid of those first so you’re free to kit out or get the bike you want

Hey Joe, i remember your post a while back about the hd parts. So your planning to buy your new rocker or cross bones on blog income alone? How long do you expect that to take?

For me it’s riding season every day of the year, I have a sports bike, rides OK – Ninja 250 – my latest job though has about 2kms of dirt roads to the actual work place (after 12kms on road) … so I may have to look at a dual or dirt bike also.

Nice Harley article here. Whenever I read about something to do with Harleys, I remember my Dad. He sure is also a Harley fan. Thanks for sharing this post, loved reading this post.
