Where Did You Come From, Where Did You Go :: April 2008

by derek on April 28, 2008 · 26 comments

Earlier tonight I was perusing my list of starred posts in Google Reader for my weekly Speedlinking feature when I realized that today is the last Monday of the month.
The last Monday of each month, I like to use the Speedlinking series to highlight the top ten blogs that referred the most traffic – where did you come from – and the top ten most visited posts for the month – where did you go.
Thanks to the following blogs who sent the most readers this way during the month of April.

Top 10 Referring Sites

  1. 45n5.com
  2. Geekologie
  3. Courtney Tuttle
  4. Leo Chiang
  5. Sparkplugging
  6. More Merchant
  7. About Blog Contests
  8. Dave Pitlyuk
  9. Marketing Pilgrim
  10. Beyond the Rhetoric

While I only list the blogs and sites that do not fall into the realm of social media or search, it is interesting to note that twitter is quickly rising through the ranks and the top spot is once again Google’s image search.
Now that we know where the most visitors came from, what were they viewing once they got here?
Here are the top 10 visited articles from the past month, according to the statistics from Google Analytics.

Top 10 Visited Posts

  1. Famous People Named Derek
  2. How To Record A Cellphone Conversation
  3. Free Advertising :: Enter for Your Chance to Win
  4. Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor
  5. Going Mobile :: Looking for a Laptop
  6. Pictures :: Aftermath of Exploding CD
  7. Unlucky 13? Not For This Blog
  8. NoFollow DoFollow YouFollow BlueFollow
  9. Are You Willing to Sacrifice to Reach Your Goals?
  10. Did You Win The Free Advertising?

Reviewing the top posts from each month is always an interesting process for me. Over the months I have really learned that you cannot predict which posts will be popular, as some of the posts above are in the top ten each month yet I never expected much from them.
One thing that I found interesting this month was that there were two posts that made the top ten that were about the contest that I ran for the free advertising. Apparently that was a pretty popular contest so we might see a repeat there in the near future.
I’d like to take a moment to thank all of you as well, as without your assistance and participation none of this would be possible. This week I will be attending SOBCon so please let me know if any of you will also be attending, as we need to make sure that we connect.
In the meantime, please let me know which was your favorite post from the month of April and what you would like to see in May.

How to record a cellphone conversation was interesting. The others were good too.

Some of the links in your top 10 visited posts are broken. You might wanna fix those. No 4 and 6 among them.

Thanks for the heads-up on that, I’ve corrected those links now. πŸ™‚

My favorite post of April would have to be “Did You Win Free Advertising” simply because I won a free ad spot!
Seriously, I like the post where you share with us the birthday presents your wife received. It was a cosy lovely post.

The headline of your post really is accurate for me, April had barely started and its over already (well almost). The month has simply raced past! I suppose that when you keep busy time seems to be a blur is rushes past so quickly.

Furniture Store April 29, 2008 at 2:25 am

Now i read the post, it wasnt really about time flying past at all! Feel a bit silly now.

gLf April 29, 2008 at 5:02 am

I’m very happy to be among your top ten referring sites!
Thanks for the mention!

Ling April 29, 2008 at 6:24 am

I guess I’d have to choose between the cellphone post and there was one more about how you lost money due to a lack of car insurance, when you were trying to save money on the laptop. What I’d like to see in May is more posts, lot more than what you’re posting currently. πŸ™‚

Thank you. No I shall not be attending. 7,8 and 9 were my favorites. You may consider writing about some current hot topics like MS vs Yahoo, Community building etc.

Futon-Matt April 29, 2008 at 9:45 am

Well, personally I like the posts where I have a link to my site. πŸ™‚ I enjoy visiting your blog often and it’s alway an entertaining read.

Michael Kwan April 29, 2008 at 10:16 am

Haha, I barely squeaked into the top ten for referring sites. Glad to send readers your way. πŸ™‚

That’s weird. The CommentLuv plug-in didn’t pull my newest post, instead getting one from earlier this month.

I noticed that myself, as that post was one I had been planning to link to in Speedlinking. Not sure what happened, as your RSS feed seems to be fine as I have read your more recent posts in Reader.

Steve Elliott April 29, 2008 at 11:53 am

I’ve seen and commented on most of your posts for the month and only recognise half of the ones in the list. Time to have a look at a few of those maybe.
Exploding CD was my favourite, I love a bit of mischief.

Asia'h Epperson April 29, 2008 at 6:40 pm

I like the free advertisement post, even though never win, still got a link back to my blog.. πŸ™‚

I can’t believe I have missed your blog on mobile phone recording. I actually needed to record one the other week and ended up with all sorts of distortions.

Steve Elliott May 3, 2008 at 2:53 am

I hadn’t read the post fully before, whoops. This is such an embarresing question, how do I “tag” people.
I seriously don’t know how!

Airsoft Guns May 3, 2008 at 8:43 am

You get a lot of traffic from a variety of websites. That’s pretty good, I guess that’s why this blog is so popular.

pauletet May 3, 2008 at 8:52 pm

What i most like about reading the blogs of this website is that there’s always something to look forward to like this:)
