Thursday Tidbits :: It's All Good

by derek on December 11, 2008 · 23 comments

On a Thursday evening that finds me grimacing through the pain of listening to the terrible NFL Network announcers calling the game between my Beloved Chicago Bears and the New Orleans Saints, I thought it would be a good time to give you a collection of random tidbits.

Syte Black Winner

As part of my Syte Black review yesterday, I mentioned that I would be giving away a free copy of the tool to one lucky winner.
Well, the random number generator has spoken and the winner is…JiMpiSh!
Now, I have to say that I find this entirely ironic – although certainly fitting. You see, JiMpiSh is the one that notified me about this tool on twitter. After entering numerous contests that I have hosted and not being selected as a winner, JiMpiSh takes home the prize on a contest that was in part made possible because he told me about the tool.
If I didn’t know better, I would think that the Random.org Integer Generator knew a thing or two about karma. Congrats buddy!

DIYThemes Thesis Purchase

After much debate – and foolishly passing on the 20% off discount on Black Friday – I decided to break down and purchase the Developer’s License for the Thesis WordPress theme from the guys (Chris Pearson and Brian Clark) at DIYThemes.
While I don’t have the first test site ready for you to view just yet, I have to say that this theme is absolutely amazing and I love the ability to customize just about everything with the use of hooks. By purchasing the developer’s license, I am able to use the theme on multiple sites as well, so it might make an appearance here before too long.

Gambling Man

While I am not a big gambler (the nickel slots are about my speed), I do enjoy placing a wager on a sporting event here and there. Earlier today I was having a chat with Andrea from According to Andrea when she asked if I’d like to make a bet on the football game tonight.
You see, I am from Chicago and Andrea is from New Orleans, so our two teams are battling it out tonight. While I expressed my concerns that Drew Brees would pick apart the Bears secondary, I agreed to the bet.
The stakes?
Well, we are real high rollers…so we bet that the loser has to write up a glowing review of the other on their blog. Right now it is looking like we’ll all be reading Andrea’s thoughts about me soon, as the Bears have bust out the whoopin’ stick and are leading 21-7 right now.

Affiliate Sales

Lets wrap up the tidbits with a quick discussion about affiliate sales. With the launch of Syte Black today, I was hoping that I would arrive home and be greeted with news of multiple sales through my affiliate link.
Hmm…maybe the system is down because the stats show a big fat ZERO in the sales column thus far. We’ll see what happens as we move forward and I will continue to monitor my AdWords campaign now that the product is actually live. You can be sure that I will let you all know how it progresses as well.
While the Syte Black affiliate sales are, well, nothing to write home about, I have also signed on as an affiliate for the DIYThemes that I mentioned earlier. In the near future, I will write more about my thoughts regarding the Thesis theme and show you my first site with the theme. But for the time being, I have to say that this is an extremely impressive theme even when you consider the cost.
So that concludes Thursday Tidbits for today…now, back to the game!

That is wierd. In the previous post, you even discussed how ironic it would be if JiMpiSh won. I’ve always suspected these random number generators have a secret artificial intelligence. Maybe there’s a plan to take over the world hidden inside those random numbers. 🙂

Right, I could not believe it when Random.org spit out his number.

Well, I’ve already started to experiment with the Thesis theme on my local development environment for use on this blog. It is just a matter of time and I am sure you will see it here. 🙂

Liking your tidbits – ThatThesis theme is really dinging my Christmas bells so I’ll pro’ly invest a few dollars in the developer license myself. Great recommendation

My only regret was not buying it when they had the discount after Thanksgiving. Out of the box, you have so much control over the design/layout just from the admin panel. Then you add in the ability to really tweak things with the hooks and you have a really slick theme.

I heard that Thesis WordPress theme is highly recommended for serious online publishers / web entrepeneurs. I want to have the Thesis Theme Developer’s Option too but I need to raise $164.00 first. 😉

Yeah, Thesis is highly regarded for not only the configuration options given to the user but also for the SEO qualities that are built into the theme.

Congrats JiMpiSh, you deserve it!!
Derek, last night was a good game. Good bet! Although I must say the Saints shouldve had that game!! But it seemed like they choked big time and wanted the Bears to win. Dammit, they can piss me off so bad sometimes. Its frustrating to seem them make so many STUUUUUUUUUPID mistakes.
I better stop before i get all pissed again. LOL :p

Hey Derek,
I grew up in Reno playing nickel poker. Was I a snob because I thought I was smart (poker requires thinking) as opposed to those people pulling the nickel slot handles (how much thinking does that require)? In either case, it was cool because as long as one was playing, one got free drinks – never any Canadian Club though 🙁 . Anyway, I haven’t seen a nickel poker machine or a nickel slot machine in decades. Where do you find them?

The last time that I was at the riverboat in our area, they still had nickel slots (although that was quite a few years ago). When I am in Vegas, I will normally hit the video poker at the bar to enjoy a few drinks while spending a few bucks. Late last year I even won a few hundred bucks playing video poker, lol.

I saw New Orleans over here at Wembley a couple of months back. My first NFL game live, loved it!

Glad you enjoyed it! It was one of the few times the Saints won. I was nervous about them playing over in London. Why? Cause sometimes its embarassing when we lose here but to lose overseas would be totally uncool. Thank goodness they won against the chargers, yay!

That thesis theme does look pretty cool, I may have to join the ranks of people who are thinking about checking in to it…probably won’t be implementing it for awhile though due to cost.
Congrats JiMpiSh…all things considered, it’s kinda cool that you won. Then again, perhaps we should question Derek’s integrity? (Just kidding Derek)

The site redesign with Thesis is almost ready for everyone to see (not this blog, I am doing another site first).
As for the contest, had I not been witness to it with my own two eyes, I might have doubted it myself. 🙂
